The Great Train Campout
« on: October 06, 2014, 12:23:40 pm »

It was great,  Shawn had this great idea to take RT-30 all the way to Bedford and a great idea it was. I had no idea RT30 went down  to a one lane highway after leaving York PA, its a nice drive without much traffic, then you hit the mountains, "gulp" but it added to the trip and I'm glad we did it, not sure if I would want to do it again though. If you do it make sure your brakes are in good condition, I dropped down a gear but that didn't slow me down  much at all having an automatic so I was on the brakes most of the time, glad I had new brakes.

Altoona is a very nice little city tucked in between the mountains being a train buff or not still a nice place to visit. The Campground we stayed at was small but well maintained and the bathrooms were second to none, very clean and heated.

A lady got in touch with Shawn and she wanted to join us and we ended up meeting them at the Railroaders Memorial Museum. When I saw their camper in the parking lot I thought they would be young because their Van was covered in flowers, real Hippie looking, I think they were older then me. &^rofl They were from Erie PA. Total mileage for the trip was 520 and I think 9 hours to get there with stopping to eat.
