Handicap Beetle hand controls
« on: September 23, 2011, 12:16:02 pm »

I have a 1974 Superbeetle with the autostick transmission.  I also have Multiple Sclerosis.  Maybe some of you remember me, I came to a couple of meetings a couple of years ago and pulled my walker out of the back of the beetle.  I have now lost enough control of my right foot that I have hand controls on my Toyota Camry.

The question I have, is there a way to put hand controls on my beetle?  The beetle runs ok. George and Clarence have worked on it some over the years.  I see a set of portable hand controls on the web that I can use my right hand for gas and brake and steer with my left.  Before I spend about $250.00 I would like to hear from someone who might have some experience with this.
Thanks
Ed

Thanks,

I will continue to look.  I saw one like the one in the video but you could swivel it to use your right hand for the gas and brake.  That would let me be able to shift.

I do, autostick has the transmission you still have to shift but don't have to push in the clutch.  When you touch the shifter it operates the solenoid that puts it into neutral.

I know, but thats the nice thing about an auto stick, you don't have to shift, only if you want to.
