It's a 68 convertible
Nick,
Apparently the 68's had some electrical changes mid model year. would you mind posting your vin? I've been checking out wiring diagrams (because of the mention of "wiring spaghetti") just in case, and there are differences.
... if you don't want to list it publicly just send me an email or PM.
Thanks.

He's got some goofy lojack thing bypassed into the ignition wire. We just have to clean up that slop under the front hood, no biggie.....
It was so freaking cold that day, so we didn't have that much time to dig deeper. I'm going over Friday am to check everything as its supposed to be like 60 degrees  idea\

Anybody got a nice set of drive up ramps? I sold my Rhino car ramps in my big vw car and tool purge last year...

Some of the things we want to address:

Team1 - electrical front trunk cleanup, then engine compartment wire cleanup-
Team2 - under car - fuel filter mount, check Bowden tube, adjust clutch etc.
Team3 - inside car- replace coupler, reinstall new back quarter windows..

When I look up the VIN on the Samba website, it lists as April of 68. Because it's so close to the cut-off month, I requested a birth certificate from VW. The build date is May 23, 1968. I read somewhere that the ignition wiring should not be fused. I think someone along the way did wire it to the fuse.

John, I wish I had a garage. The way that my house is constructed, I cant even build a car port. But I digress. I have a moderately equipped toolbox. My dad was a mechanic and I have his tools. It's a mixture of metric and standard. I may have some specialty tools because he fixed foreign cars. I do have floor jacks and a small hydraulic jack. I think Rich is bringing his though.

Here's a little background on the car. I bought it in 2017. It's a California car. The previous owner bought it with the intention of converting it to a class 11. Why you would convert a convertible into a class 11 is another story. But he realized after he bought it that its a swing axle and not IRS like he wanted.  The car is pretty much stock. It does have a replaced single port engine. Jack and Rich think that it maybe 1600. The convertible top mechanism is in working order without any issues. The rear quarter window is an issue. The regulator/frame broke off the mount that is attached inside the body. Because the regulator is chrome, and the mount is brass, there isnt a way to weld them together. I have a replacement set of regulators and new lift channels. The lift channels were rusted out. I also have new rubber seals to go with it. The transmission seems to have a bad mount or bowden tube may need to be adjusted. Maybe even both?! It pops out of 1st gear sometimes. Mostly when going from a stop. The car will jerk when you let up on the gas. Its nerve wrecking to drive when you have to make a left hand turn into oncoming traffic. You hope it doesnt pop out of gear.

I've got stands and a good jack. I'm going over Friday am to jack it up so we don't waste time doing that on Saturday. This way we can spend time doing the important stuff, like BS-ing about meaningless drive. lol

Oh, wait, a "decent Jack"? you mean Jack can't come over in his speedo?

The only speedo I want to see is the one in the Beetle's dashboard.

I was planning to bring a lot of my low voltage electrical stuff too. There should be plenty of stuff on hand... except of course for that one 14 cent item that none of us happen to have...
