Saturday, finally get turns signals to work BO**. Sunday, break of bleeder screw & discover that master cylinder will not prime & that I need to bench bleed it.  :wallbash: Lesson learned  f+t if I had bleed the master before I put it in would have saved myself the this extra work @7@ That will teach me not to take short cuts. Oh well better that I found out master full of air while it’s in the garage than on the road.

  Why do you need to bench prime it?

   Maybe I was lucky the times I replaced a master cyl, but never had to bench bleed it.

Just put one in last year..........

If you want , you can loosen all the fittings ( switches and lines) and add fluid int the resevoir till you see it seeping out of the fittings, close those up then bleed brakes, tire farthest at first.

Did you try that?

Good call Matt. I've always heard that bench bleeding wasn't necessary.

Gravity bleed yes tried that when I installed. It's a new master supposedly German. Petal had way too much travel. Went to bleed and it pumped out the fluid in the line but reservar level did not go down much then the petal went to the floor. No leaks anywhere ever. Ordered bench bleeding kit. Hope the master is not bad out of the box. Guees I will find out when I bench bleed

I have done quite a number of masters and never did a bench bleed.

It won't bleed right if you don't have the correct amount of play between the push rod and master, that can change with a new master.

I have seen bad ones out of the box also but very few.

Thanks Jack, your right as always :icon_thumleft: ... the petal stop was rusted away so I made my own, however even when adjusted to it's limit I had nearly a inch of free play and it should be 1/4" now all I have to do is modify the petal stop to give me the proper free play... Of course when I took out the petal stop I dropped my clutch cable and the spring let go on the barke petal  :wallbash: m-d2 gl6

Have you done a clutch cable before?

There is a little trick to put the pedal spring back on, have you done it before?

the bolt hole in the pedal stop should be elongated

Yes have done clutch cable before & I put in a new petal assembly... whats the trick to the spring ???

I had nearly a inch of free play and it should be 1/4" now all I have to do is modify the petal stop to give me the proper free play...

1/4 inch at the top of the pedal, about 1/8 inch at the push rod to master
