Those safety features y'all are complaining about have saved thousands of lives! And with all the people talking on their cell phones these days (and other distractions... movies, laptops, eating, etc) we should all be thankful if we're lucky enough to have them in our cars.

If your a parent and you're concerned about kids talking on the phone while driving, there are already companies making devices that you can plug into their OBD2 that you pair with their phone that will prevent calling. You can set it to allow emergency call out only. Pretty neat technology.

That is what the product is in the first link. A cell signal jammer for inside the car. It blocks out the signal only when the car is moving. So at a stop light or while parked, they still may use the phone. I was gonna buy this and install it in my wife's car to see if she noticed. THEN I WOULD HAVE CAUGHT HER! lol

As a multi-tasker I have to disagree. I text all the time when I drive. I don't even have to look at the keyboard. For the most part I consider myself a safe driver, do I text when I'm in a mess of traffic no. I'm kind of annoyed by the whole using the phone while driving being illegal thing. Ive seen people doing some crazy chit as they drive, and how many of us are guilty of driving with a video camera? If you are going to make using your phone illegal, you might as well make eating, putting on make-up, smoking, changing cds, un-dressing illegal too.

Lot's of valid points Greg. To a point it is stupid, but the $200+ ticket to me is not worth it at all. There are so many things that distract us while we drive. Especially since I work along the beachfront in Cape May  -eyescan.=

When I started talking to the girl who would become my wife, I sent texts nonstop while behind the wheel of a 24' box truck. Some of us can multitask but the fuzz won't take that as an excuse. Kinda like that clip when Jermey Piven is on the phone with a radio show in Australia and gets pulled over on air! Funny stuff.

Even if you can multi task well, you still are losing a part of a second that could be the 5 to 15 feet extra to stop that means the difference between an accident or near miss... fender bender or frame damage, life or death.   Yes everyone is guilty to a point, but texting is much much worse than the radio or smoking, eating i'm on the fence about the level of distraction worse than radio better than texting.  I get it when stopped in traffic or something, but I have to avoid many morons swerving because the were reading / writing a text...  They have proven that texting and driving is as dangerous as drinking and driving...  Yes , some people are good at that too, dosent mean you should do  it tho   whistleegi

Is that text really worth risking someone elses life?

This turned into a great discussion! I have just given up on texting while driving. Use the phone with a wired headset. I haven't been willing to pay for a really good bluetooth. But with gas prices climbing the way they are, I have adjusted my driving drastically anyway.
