Thanks Sonny,

I found a thread on Samba about hinge pins...wasn't this one though. Now I have two to look at. ???

I really don't think I'm going to have that much of a problem now. I stopped using the air hammer. It turns out I had driven the pins up as far as they would go using that bit.. The bit has a point and gets wider. I almost bought a set of punches this morning but didn't. I grabbed an old allen wrench and stuck that in the bottom of the hinge and smacked it a couple of times and got movement on all four pins.I even put the allen wrench in the top of the hinge and smacked them back down and then smacked them right back up again. You all know what an allen wrench looks like so you know it gets a little hard to smack the curved part. I'm going to take it to work tomorrow and cut the curved part off and make my own punch. :icon_cheesygrin:

Go to the Hardware Store and buy one 1/4 inch punch or
Harbor Freight and get a whole set cheap.   Don't ruin a
perfectly good wrench.  You may need it in the future  .///

I wouldn't mess up a good one. @7@

I used one of my free ones..It was from the cheapy set you get when you fill out a credit application at a mall or a sporting event. You know ...the application you fill out in your pets name and the phone number you provide is an $8.99 a minute sex line...  777

I was cleaning the basement, when I came across a shift rod and coupler from a Porsche (I'm still trying to figure out where I got it). Anyway, I looked at it for a bit and had a "Light bulb above the head" moment. After some cutting, making new bushings and a tack weld or two.... I now have a porsche coupler for my VW shift rod....

Because I was shamed :icon_pale: at the Christmas party for not working on the Volks Rod I have been working on it for the last 3 days. I had to put a lot of things back on the engine that I gave others because they needed parts. Yesterday I got the engine in and today installing gas lines and electrical and other odds and ends.

I went to install the shifter and found the bushing that the shift rod rides in was missing  @7@ that means I have to remove the front axle and the axle extention c23. I went ahead and put the shifter in and it is sloppy but still shifts good. When it brakes, I'll fix it.

Why don't you just spilt the bushing so you can get it over the rod & then push it into its holder. Better than no bushing
