New Roof Racks
« on: June 09, 2008, 11:17:28 am »

Hey Checkout these Roof racks, they are newer styles and cool. Only problem is the price! But  $61$ non the less. This company has some cool stuff, but again the price is out there.

Do you know how much work was done on that motor in the most beautiful bus? I saw that it had dual carbs, anything else? I didn't get a chance to hear it run.  :'(

from what it sounds like he almost had to push it home

Hey how is the alternator ??

Alternator is done. I notched the bracket so it sits in closer but the wierd thing is if the alternator sits parallel to the flywheel (?) the belt starts screaming again. If I turn it just slightly out of parallel, it works fine.  This may be because the pulley on the alternator is made for a modern serpentine belt and our fan belts are notched in the opposite direction.  mmmmmmmmm!!!! s#r

Waiting for cooler weather to change the steering gear.Maybe this weekend

You should replace the belt with a notched one, it should grab the pulley better.

Off topic I read that if you turn the top pulley with socket or an adjustable wrench and the engine doesn't turn that your belts too loose, does that always apply?

There in lies the problem. The pulley as I said is grooved like a modern day serpentine belt drive- grooves going horizontal. the belt has notches going vertical. I can't use a belt with the horizontal grooves because they dont make them thin enough to fit on the VW flywheel. l

Sounds like you should just junk the car. I will buy it for scrap with the title for 200.00. ;D
