no, I'm just saying it's not worth $3500. With alot of original parts missing, the only way to go with this car is custom.

Never pay full price if you dont have to.
Never buy a car with your emotions- it can get very expensive.

About 25 years ago I went to look at a 65for $2000- it was a little rough but was fixable- I knew I could do it and was pumped at buying an early car!! Bought it immediately. 3/4 of the way home the trans almost fell out of the car and the clutch was toast. Should have put it through a good test drive before I bought it. Limped it back to the owner the next day- he would only give me back $1500.

I have about $4000 into Ned. And I had 95% of the original parts. But I'm sure you all know how much you can put into these.

I agree with Ant, talk him down, but if he knows what he's got its prob not going much lower.

Original parts on this car r gonna be scarce, but if you dont care about being original...it could b worth it

I'm pretty sure if the decklid is an original vert lid for that year (kinda looks like it but can't really tell from pics), in rust free shape, it can be worth 300-600 (no joke) and therefore its worth alot more than a 500 parts car.  If it was a original 57 vert that lid would b worth... shoot upwards of a $1000.  But as you can tell $$$ r high for vert parts and i don't know if repros of that lid r even being made.(they might be?)  I have heard of others grafting in the louvers from newer verts to simulate the look and get the extra cooling... for alot less $$$.

Is it worth 3500?  Not sure, need more pics to tell you that, but from what i see it could b a really cool ride.

If you like it and have the $$$, and dont car about it being original, than it could b a diamond in rough...

How much is original or appropriate for the car for that year?
Hood, fenders, engine lid, seats, insturments, door handles, vent windows, etc?

If it mostly is, then you wont be payng a lot for parts then bring it back to stock, there are so many other cars out there you could get, much less rare,  to chop-
Why buy it just to destroy what it is - let someone else buy it who can restore it back to it's rare state if you cant.
If you want a car to mod, can prob find  a less old one  -  one in better shape for that money.
Every day, those cars get more and more rare........

If i had the money and my wife would not  [gunfiring\ for getting another vw, I would talk him down and get it..

FYI in 1958 VW produced 575,407 standard beetles and only 9,624 verts worldwide.  This bug is rare and there are a few 1 year only parts that apply to this bug.  Also...steering wheel  (the missing one) is 56-59

well i kinda left it as im not 100 % decided . It will never be worth the big bucks because of the missing drive line . it would have to go custom .  I'm ok with that  if i bought it but i still have not seen the work he did .  And being a metal guy  i'm not looking forward to it .
