AVG Free... But you get what you pay for
Subscribe to Norton... You'll never have a problem.

Subscribe to Norton... You'll never have a problem.
Or be able to access the internet... LOL
I got rid of norton at work years ago, they were the slowest of the major vendors to update after an attack. Their software is bloated and gets into everything, and wreaks havoc on the system.
Choose after your own research...
Norton's heavy handed approach to security may be what you want.
Just my 2@cent
I use AVG, and run Malwarebytes. Knock on wood I never have any problems.
The best paid for AV Program is Kaspersky. $28 on amazon

And they ranked Norton as number 2 so its a win win either way.
All of the major vendors provide a free trial, so try them out and see what fits your needs the best.
I believe the best mindset to have is: a PC OS is disposable. If you make sure all of your data is backed up so a virus or malware is no longer a worry, just a small inconvenience. Any time you have an issue you can just wipe out the OS and rebuild the PC, and be back up and running in a few hours with a significant gain in speed from wiping out all the garbage you acquire along the journey... Technical knowledge is not necessary to do this, but it helps...

Is this the part where Im supposed to defend my position????
As for 3Gears statement...Yup I uninstalled it on the system at work for exactly the reasons he stated.
I use Norton at home on 2 computers (seperately) and have never been infected with a virus or malware, and I troll some seedy places on the web to get my VW stuff. Yes, it scans every internet site I visit... and those milliseconds I can never get back.... But it does what I pay it to do.
We use Trend Micro at work and in 6 years have not seen so much as an unwanted pop-up.
Don't know how their home product compares

Jack,
Here is an excellent site to fix all computer issues, and viruses.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/)
This is an online group of people whose hobby it is to sort these things out for people for free... like some people who like to fix other people's vws for free thumpup)-
They helped me numerous times, especially when a virus I had would turn my computer off 3 seconds after I turned it on.. never even saw anything on the screen... &(rage_ they fixed that for me.
Go to the forum tab. Find the right spot for your complaint. ( -> "Security", -> " Am I infected? What do I do?"
You will get someone assigned to help you - they are pretty quick - a day or 2 or sooner...
If you have a devil of a virus, and the person cannot help you ( only had that happen to me once) they start calling in people from their group who are the big guns. Very likely the person who is assigned to you will clear it up.
If you browse their site, you will note they are authors of some incredible antivirus software, the one they are most noted for is Malwarebytes. You can download that and run it - very good program
To get an idea of some of their work with people you can read some of the posts from people having issues.
Like any other website, you need to sign up create username and password....
I've used them a dozen times or so over the years...
Hope this helps now and in the future.
Matt

Good one Matt, I've used that site before, and use malwarebytes as my first line of defense when cleaning an infected pc.
Glad to hear all is well in jackland!!!!

I also downloaded ;their Vipre Anti Virus, it did good job finding problems. thumpup)-
-
OOoo I did not know about that one - I will have to try it
Some of what they have is very powerful, and to be used only under their guidance, they make that pretty clear for those... so just be careful
