Title: PUMPKIN RUN
Post by: lovebus (jack) on November 07, 2015, 04:39:17 pm
!hug  Had a good time today at the Pumpkin Run and as always it was packed and they were still streaming in when I left at Noon, they were parked on both sides of the road for a good 3/4 of a mile.

I don't know why but I enjoy looking at the  old Junk cars then the ones in the show and especially the massive old Steam  Engines. I only have a couple of photos because I didn't have any SD cards in my cameras    Maybe Jay or Shawn will post some.

We had a couple of sprinkles but only enough to wet Rogers car, I hit rain about 20 min's after leaving the show and had rain the rest of the way home.

All & All a great day for a show.

When we left Atco we took the Cruise route that Jay had planed instead of the main Highway to get there fast and I'm glad we did.  11&* Jay found a great road (as always) to get us there and I'm looking forward to the Dust Um Off cruise to see what he has planed.
If you didn't go you missed out on a great cruise and show.
I wish I knew of a way to get more cars to attend the cruises but it is what it is.
Those that showed up at the show:
Jay, Ralph, Shawn, Roger, Joe T., Norm, Paula and myself.

For year's I heard about this show but never went. Boy did I miss a lot.

This event is unlike any car show you ever been to. It's more like a County Fair, for cars. I loved everything about the place.

The Speed Museum's dedicated to past Stock Car and Sprint racers was so nostalgic. Complete Engines of every kind that raced those days. Even Pieces of the track. Of course outside was dozens of restored race cars.

Every kind of food was available including Cape May Crab cakes and beef brisket sandwiches so large I could eat one for two days.

The flea Market was crazy. Perhaps a 100 vendors or more. I loved the old rusting cars.

The working Hit and Miss Steam engines reminded me of the one that ran the irrigation pump we had on the farm in the 40"s. I can't wait till next year.

Thanks Jay for a great scenic ride through rural NJ.

Did a little math.... They took in more than $50k. That show is a monster. Absolutely amazing.

The view from the middle. 9 rows to the left. Hundreds of yards behind us and football fields of farm equipment and big rigs to the right

While you're waiting for Shawn, here a couple of pictures of engines from one of the speedway Museums.

  Beautiful Flatehead

Here is an engine I'll bet none of you youngsters had ever seen. This engine ruled the stock car class in the early 1950's untill the Rocket 88 Oldsmobile V8 came out. It is a six cylindera Hudson with Twin H, that is two single barrel carburetors and a high compression head. somewhere over 250 HP. Doesn't sound like much now but in the Hudson Hornet it was the muscle car of its day.

Geat shots. You really captured the event. I left at 12:00 and like Jack said, cars were lined up for a mile coming in.

You showed so many things I didn't see. Either they came later or I missed them completely. There was a lot to see.

This definitely is the top show on this coast.

  Anyone missing their outboard Motor?

=whiteflagSounds  better than the pumpkin run, which I will never do again,  ride down was fine,  it's was the 2.5 hrs to get out of the Junkyard n another 2hrs to get home.
Wiper motor cooked, so no wipers on the way home in the rain.  I sure hope
The rest of  SJVW, CLUB was able to get home safe n sound.

Dont write the pumpkin run off... The problem was the rain, not the show. We hung out for an hour and a half till the rain stopped, and drove right out of the place. Hit some traffic out on the roads but not bad. Its a great show... It'll be fine if people dont all leave at once

There was Zero Traffic people to move taffic, I won't do that again.  I didnt see a yellow shirt traffic guy or police anywhere for the full 2hrs trying to get out of there.
Not my idea a a fun time!

Thats because of the mass exodus.... The police were scheduled for 3:30

Leave early or leave late and you'll have no trouble.

Like when I go to Dover for a Nascar race, we always tailgate for an hour or so and have lunch and we miss the heavy traffic. 11&*

Normally this show is canceled in a Rain Event. But since the Rain wasn't really forecast and only a chance of showers they didn't cancel..

When it started raining, it seemed like a mass exodus, cars were backed up in ever lane, all you herd was mussel engines revving to blow the carbon out.. Cars were trying every maneuver to gain car lengths on others. Even saw The Duke Car trying to jump over others as on TV  -rofl\ -rofl\

Yep, we hung out and snuggled in ole Faithful Love Bus Kept High and Dry. Even had a few new members stop by and sheltered in place. There was a pix on Shawns Picasa Album someplace?
Traffic was a little slow exiting, but flowed. The ride home was slow go to Mays Landing mostly due to rain and guys using caution driving there Classic cars, after that point all traffic flowed at highway speeds.

Great Show, we should do this again, and again.

BTW if you entered your ride the cost was  $15.00
If you parked and walked in Spectators was $8.00
So if 2 people were in one car and entered as Show.. You save a $1.00
If 4 peeps were in your car you would save $17.00... Price would still only be $15.00

Basically the way the math works is it's more price friendly to enter your car and guess for the $15.00
Also by doing this we would all park together and exit together and do so by the easier exit!

Yea Joe, the engine was great but the car was a sled. It was so heavy it hardly moved.
