Title: New Carb!!!
Post by: 3Gear on October 22, 2007, 03:48:40 pm
Hey,
I picked up a new carb last week hoping to resolve my problem with my engine.  Well, other than the ability to idle everything is awesome P#3 I  drive&& around the block, and got excited. But it would not idle. So I decided not to adjust anything, so I don't mess anything up, I enlisted the help of a sjvwc.ico professional.   So the master came over and went to work on my baby,  weldface gifsawsall 196 plndonut well, no matter what it would not idle for him, m-d &m& m-d2  s#r  c23 :wallbash:
At least now I don't feel like a total retard. We came to the conclusion that we have a bad idle circuit in the new carb.  We tested for air leaks and all that fun stuff by the way.

Now I have boxed up my new carb and I am exchanging it for another.  Oh what fun. I gave up on newer cars because of illogical, unsolvable problems,  this darn thing is getting close to finding a new home via thesamba... No not really but the thought has crossed my mind... more than once now....

Hope you guys are having better luck with your projects than I am  :icon_geek:

Cheers,
Marc   stoned#

Marc, I know how you feel. My bug had that un-fixable vacuum leak at the carb base so I replaced everything - twice. Even though I had to let the car go, It is still sitting at a "repair shop" just a couple of miles from where I work. It kills me to see it sitting out like that gl6. He must be having a tough time with it also. GOOD LUCK!

Have you given it enough time to warm up? I know that my car will stall out at idle unless it is around the block a couple of times. I know I'm the club idiot, I'm just trying to help.

Thanks, what drives me buggy is that it did not have the problem before i rebuilt it...

Yep, warm enough to burn your arm on the exhaust, good thought though...

 What a bummer Marc!!
    sheesh!!!!!!!!!   888  :icon_eek:

Are you coming to the show Marc? If so, if you want, I can bring and  loan you a carb to mess around with while you wait for your new one.....if you cant get that car running with my carb, then..... ???????.

If you dont want it,  that is ok, I understand taking the time to mess with a carb, only then to have the new carb come and start messin with that..
............................Well, it would be good practice!  :icon_cheesygrin:
Did you have your old carb Marc? maybe you could have taken the idle circuit off of that.

Regardless, good luck with the new carb

Matt

Yeah, Im really second guessing my decison to pass on that full dual solex setup at e-town.  It would have been very nice on the buggy.

Ha ha, I thought you were trying to get the wife drive the buggy!  Why not put an old 36 horse on it. Maybe she won't be so afraid of it!

She's got no problem with horsepower, just manual transmissions

Yep, I do 120 a day, I like my automatic in traffic, but always keep manuals around for fun.

The key to having fun with automatics is to attach them to V8s :)

Well my new replacment carb is here!!!  ;D I will not be able to put it on today, but I hope to be able to do it tomorrow... This getting dark early puts a real damper on working on my car...  I am sort of afraid to put on the new carb, because if the car still won't idle  Ithink  Iwill lose my mind  c23

Hey just curious what type carb are you replacing?  Do you have the 009 or vacum advance dist?  I'm waiting for mine to arive I got a grandspankin new pict-34 type 3 cause mine leaks from the only seal you dont get in a rebuild kit.  I have a dead spot starting from a stop so I got a nice new vacum adv dist to go with it.  (I like to order new parts in pairs so the dont feel left out by the other parts haha)

I picked up a 31, from what I was told it is a better carb, I also picked up a Single Vacuum Advance Dizzy.

Funny, I promised mine if it got me home from Virginia alive (long story)  I would only put new parts into it...

Anyway, My back is finally starting to feel close to my normal level of crippling pain, so that means I'll be able to work on the car very soon.  Half a dozen Advil and a beer, I can do anything... stoned# c23 :icon_geek:
