Title: 1972 Super Beetle - $1100
Post by: jthw8 on February 15, 2008, 05:38:04 pm
yeah yeah, automotive ADD strikes again.

Most of you know the story of this car already. The gentleman I bought it off of had it fixed up for his daughter.  She drove it 2x got rear ended and put it in the garage where it sat for 13 years.  This car is VERY clean...look at the pictures.  Comes with replacement parts for anything damaged in the accident (front fender, rear fender and engine cover)

The engine is immaculate, the interior aside from the front seats looks showroom, the 2 front seats should be re covered to look as good as the rest of the car.

The car is an autostick.

I have not attempted to start it since its 13 year hibernation, I feel it should be gone through and at a minimum have an oil change and valve adjustment before attempting to start.  I have little doubt that it will start and run fine, it looks immaculate.

I am only selling because I have the opportunity to acquire a unique aircooled project and I am trying to limit my projects around here.

Its unlikely it will sell in time to finalize the deal on the other car.  If that happens its off the market.

But you should know by now not to get attached to any car I own ;)

Except the Manx...that seems to be sticking around.

yep, almost forgot! I'm afraid to ask but did you ever count up all the cars you've had in the last year ? I remember the Yugo and the 914 but its all a blank from there!

must be something about fiberglass, I've had the Bradley since 93' and can't part with it,
and thats the longest I've owned anything!

Hey hope somebody from the club buys it from what I saw it looks like a real simple project...good luck!

Lets see...count....lifetime, 94 or 96...need to do a recount.  Full list minus a few new additions is here:
http://www.misfittoysracing.com/thelist.htm

Purchased (and some sold) in the last year:
914  and Yugo were 2006 no go

2007
Bluebug (sold)
Greenbug parts car (sold)
72 Super (for sale)
Diesel Rabbit
Neon (traded)
Starion (sold)
Roadmaster wagon (traded)
Honda civic (potential BABE car)
Mercedes (sold)
Jeep Grand Cherokee (sold)
48 Dodge (sold)
Caprice wagon

It was a busy year I guess.

You are right, its an easy project, the price for clubmembers is just what I have in it nothing more.  Its listed elsewhere for more money.  Id rather see it stay in the club.

how low would you be willing to go on it?

Asking price is what I have into it, Im asking $1400 anywhere else so $1100 is pretty much the bottom line on it, Id like to get in on this other car but Im not going to loose money over it, just cant afford to right now.  If you are really interested you should take a look, it's a very clean rust free car needs very little work to be on the road again.

I"d like to check it out but My schedule super tight right now where do you live?  I'm in pitman I could maybe tomorrow night? hopefully in daylight?  whats your # I'll call ya from work 2 morrow.  So how hard is ot to convert an autostick to manual?  Any manual trans you want to sell? s#r

Im in mullica hill so not far from pitman at all, Im right off 322 (22 Kaylas way, mullica hill for mapquest)

Im home most of the day tomorrow but I owe the wife a late valentines dinner so I have to leave around 6ish.  You can call the house 856-223-1889

Converting to manual.  You need the trans (sorry, dont have one) and a pedal cluster for the clutch pedal.  The trans bolts up just the same.  The only potential issue is if there isnt a clutch cable tube in the tunnel (some cars had them some didnt) if the tube is there you run the cable through and its done.  If its not then its more work to get one in there.  Personally Id spend the 70 bux or so and buy a hydraulic clutch kit if the cable tube wasnt there.

I looked at that car before he owned it. It is an autostick and he did a lot to the car to make it drivable. Well worth the money but ugly as sin with the purple paint.....
