OK, took her out for a test run today. At slow speed brakes slow down the car with little pedal play maybe an inch or two. Did a 40 mph panic stop; she stopped dead in her tracks, pedal rock hard and about 3 inches from floor & did not pull to either side. Oil pressure 30, cylinder head temp 325 when cruising at 55 to 60 and immediately drops down to the 225 to 250 when driving around in 3rd gear at 35 to 40 mph. Oil temp 180. Have some very slight hesitation but the instructions that came with my SVDA dizzy says that that’s normal and that it takes 500 miles to break in the diaphragm (I still under 200 miles since the install) Tracks straight & true (had my uncle follow me to be sure) and does not wonder or pull. Turn signals are hyper but I do have them. Feel pretty confident now, think I’m good to go. Plan to make the Dust Off Cruise drive&&

Thats just about normal, my 72 super with the 1776 runs 325 on #1 after a hard run drops down around 300 or so. My oil stays a constant 180 even in warm weather. is your 30 psi at idle or after a hard run? and what size oil pump are you running ? Sounds like we can count you in for the Dust Em off!

Bad ground that makes sense as sometimes they blink normaly & sometimes fast. I'm pretty sure I even know which one it is. Useing O.E. Mexican filter pump with 30mm gears & the motor is a Mexican block 1600 DP. Pressure was over forty when first started it up, was 30 at idle when I got back from my run. Head temp is off #3 cylinder

Hi Guys, just to let you know, I'm probably the newest member of the Club, as soon as the check clears! I'm literally 1/4 mile right down the road from Washington Lake Park, so if anybody needs anything, I'm more than happy to help. Unfortunelately, I'm Bug-less at the moment, but as soon as I see the 'Dubs in the park, I'm sure that will change very quickly. I'm expecting that same smile on my wifes face as when I brought home a car two years ago to race in a demo derby, or when I decided to be involved in lawn mower racing, not exactly a popular thing in NJ.
Dang, I NEVER should have gotten rid of my beloved '67.
Anyway, looking forward to being there and hoping for great weather for you guys.

Sounds like a good set up. I'm not a fan of the filter pumps but its better than nothing. 30 psi is a healthy idle. Sounds like you're ready for some fun! Get some miles on it and lets go! Hope to see you at some of the events this summer, we can always use another member on the road!

Some of the biggest VW nuts started out just attending a couple of shows its a very addictive hobby! and tons of fun! Hope to see you at the park!

Hey thanks, looking forward to being at the Park. In the meantime, I'm prowling right now for Bugs...
And about that wife thing, well, I kinda didn't tell her yet about my next project...
Nothing will beat the look of joy on her face when I bring home my Bug - Well, its definittly a "look" after 27 years of marriage.
The "How to's on the site are awesome - brings back some memories fighting with clutch cables, rear brake drums that just didn't want to come off, that amazing washer fluid tank, etc. etc. etc. Great stuff you guys..

Found & fixed not a ground problem. One element burned out in each front turn signal bulb. Was using bulb #1341. Changed to #1157 (elements visibly more beefy) Now work fine. Now I just have to get the brake lights squared away. Think I found that problem too. My repo harness is wired for a 3 switch master >:( which they don't make any more) My new master has 2 three wire switches. Will fix that tomorrow
