Title: Carb Question
Post by: marcr1 on May 21, 2008, 09:38:25 pm
Hi all,

I have a 74 super vert and i was thinking of getting a new carb.  my question is what is the difference between the 30/31 with an adapter to make it fit and the 34/3.

the 30 and 31 are smaller carbs. You should use the 34 with better design.

Is there any reason why i should keep the original big bulky air filter.   i was lookking at a new smaller one.  the guys at work said i would get better airflow. and this would help the overall performance.

Keep the stock air filter, it does a great job and isn't restrictive. The stock filter also has a tube that sits above the carb and helps straighten the air flow into it. None of the aftermarket filters have this and your car will run much better with it.

Hey Marcr1

If you like these boards you would love our meetings. We try to do at least 1 tech session pr meeting plus we do a "troubleshooting bench session" for folks looking for answers to problems. Our theme the last couple of months has been "VW basics" which has covered simple stuff like brake adjustments, valve adjustments, timing etc. If you are anywhere in So Jersey try to make it to a meeting I think you will find many answers to some of those VW headaches!
