I was reading on a site about how the correct octane of fue helps in engine cooling, they also say for gas with oxygens (dont know how to say it) and ethanol you should rejet your carb because these fuels tend to make you run lean? I just wanted to hear everyones input on this is it a concern or do you just readjust your stock stuff to accomadate?
Chris,
don't know much about rejetting a stock carb because of ethanol or other additives in todays fuels. I've rejetted carbs to obtain a better air / fuel ratio and with it yes the engine runs cooler. Now that has a limit since running a mixture thats too rich can also harm things by washing important lubricants off of the cylinder walls and killing the lubricating qualities of most oils. Another problem is emissions on a car subject to inspection, it might not pass. If you go up just a size or two bigger I doubt if it would hurt and you could see some benefits as the engine would run cooler and with a bit more power. An air / fuel ratio meter would come in handy when trying to figure this stuff out.
You said it was running good. Leave it alone!!
Yea it is runnin great I just started using higher octane thats all. the site said use 91 so thats the only changes I'm making. I just got worried because I deove from glassborro to bellmawr on 55 and my oil light was flickering at a red light but went out as soon as I accelerated but the manual says thats normal? So i guess no need to worry? I have all the proper fan parts and tins for my cooling system so I'm good to go
If your running 10/30 a change to 10/40 in the summer may stop the light from comming on.
yeah thats what I put in the other day 10/40 I"ll be driving down 55 tomorrow morning to bellmawr area so I'll see how that works
hey today while driving to work I had the same thing. Ran fine but when I was idling at a stop or light, the red oil light flickered. But as soon as touched the gas it went out. I'm using straight 40 wt oil and I checked that it has enough....
..?

It's normal on engines that have many, many miles on them. As long as it goes out when your driving you should be ok. When driving in slow moving traffic like 30MPH its better to drop into 3rd gear to keep the speed on the cooling fan up and to circulate more oil to help cooling..
hmm I'm always in 3rd at 30mph.. you mean some buses have enough oomph to be in 4th? *pout*
Any chance crappy gas causes stalling? I filled up my tank with this crappy gas from a no name station and ever since then my bug stalls until a couple miles of driving. >:( I didn't know there was a wawa up the street. Gas smells really bad and strong.
