Title: Oil Temp Question
Post by: 3Gear on July 30, 2008, 09:11:07 am
I installed my gauges the other day  :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft: I now have Oil temp, pressure, volts and amps. I'll have my CHT soon.  :icon_cheesygrin:

Anyway, I was wondering what my oil temp should be?

It has been at about 180 to 185 on a 30 minute run, is this too hot?

My temp sender is at the end of the dip stick.

Thanks,
Marc

Marc,

Oil temp is something everybody has an oponion on. My 72 runs just about the same at 180 - 190 and sometimes if I'm running hard 200. Now where you are reading that temp also makes a difference. Sump senders usually read too low and are slow to react, Perssure relief senders and dip stick senders are quicker to react and tend to be a bit more accurate. I'd say you are just about right .

Marc,

Where did you get the gauges and how much do they run?  I'd like to get the same setup for my bus if it's not crazy expensive.

Are they hard to install?  I'm fairly ignorant about all this stuff....

Thanks,
Sky

Yep VDO makes good stuff, the gauges I put in were from Westach, my pop gave then to me from his old beach truck. Westach are big in the airplane gauge world. However, their car stuff is top notch. I am getting a dual CHT for 102. plus shipping.

You can also build a quad gauge so you only have one extra hole in the dash...

Guys: all of the guys I fly with use Westach gauges in their Ultralights and I still have  two in the boxes they came in that I never put in my Ultralight before we sold it. I for one think they are the best made. Only my  2CENTS
