Well I finially found a Bus that I think that I can fix up. After a few attempts and loosing a few deals it looks like I found one. Some of these guys are Nut-zo with what their asking on these babies, so knowing and seeing what their selling for I feel that the one I bought via a distressed sale was a great buy. I haven't had one of these Babies in about 30 years. One of the many problems with it is it's freaken slow-oooooooo. It is a 1967 Splitty, gear reduction boxes etc. But trust me things will change! bus))
I went to pick this bus up and it WAS A RUST BUCKET.. Sale Canceled! :surrender:

don't think the purist are going to like that one but who gives a rats mooning
Hey Guys calm down, I may just be very Happy with that old 40 Hp engine. Then again I could always pop a Subieeee Sti engine in there with a large Turbo and push upwards of 400 ponies. But like we all know for every H.P. there is a equal and costly reaction to our wallets. So for now I'm living in the slow lane.
But for now I've gots to many other projects to fix up on the chit wagon. Not to be confused with Jacks P.O.C sorry Jack meant most "beautiful POS".
I actually had a good deal worked out on a nice Syncro Westy Camper but that was one of the deals that fell through. I've always wanted a Splitty, but prices were just out of hand not to mention that almost every Kombi out there is rusted really bad. Then I stumbled on this Bus, and racked my brain to negotiate a killer deal and then to scround the bucks so, when this deal came together I had to rent one of the kids to Mexico for a few years to help fund my habit. I just couldn't say no. To the Bus that was :surrender: .. I know that I'm crazy for risking any dollars in these current times, but possession is 9\10ths of the fun, especially when the price is better then right. If I bring another VDub into my neighborhood the neighbors are going to call the VDub :police: on me.

I still have dreams about this one....

Said it before and I'll say it again- without pictures, it don't exsist.
Don't make me sneak over Jay and take pictures!
Congrats Jay! Another Bus driver among us. My guess is the Bus will be some folks winter projects. This spring could yield a large crop of VW Buses ... as far as the eye can see.
OK ... maybe just a couple ... I got carried away.
We all needs pics of the new project/Bus!

And no comments from the peanut gallery Mr Super Vision Bahaha-aaa I don't even want to hear that you see some bad paint or dirt on the floor etc.
I've gots lots of changes in mind for it this winter. First thing will probably be installing a IRS gearbox and lowered axels etc. BuSaRu? Hm-mmm maybe or perhaps I'll install one of my Harley engines in it and call it a HarLaRu drive&& bus)) drive&&

All kidding aside the lower part of the Bus is that FlipFlop paint, so it's forever changing, kind of like one of them there Gecko's. As for the Paint the spray gun may just come out along with the trans, engine, axels, etc, etc.

Jay ... don't let the other kids tease you. She's a looker! I'm sure you have grand plans and it will LOOK and RUN just great. Congrats again!
Hey my Beast (the Bus) has a dead squirrel looking bondo patch on one side. But first things first (for me) ... make it run and worry about the "look" later.

I've been away on the DASVOLKS.COM site :'( I feel guilty that's why I haven't been posting so much.
I Did Not Buy the Bus. I traveled over 1400 miles into the deep south to go and pick it up and I was shocked when I saw it. It was not at all what it was advertized to be :icon_puke_l: 1st of all it was rated on the Samba ad as being a #1 in execellent condition, thus why I jumped on it after the seeler and I cam to what I thought was an affordable price. Even in these risky d-s times, I chanced it. I had considered flying in and driving the bus home, as the seller assured me that It was in excellent condition and road worthy. But on 2nd though I decided to drive it just incase, not to mention taht I didn't want to put that many hard road miles on this vehical. But again when I arrived on site and looked at the Bus shocked I asked he seller's where's the bus that was in the ad? The paint that was in the ad looked shinny and fresh, the paint that I saw onsite looked oxidized faded and felt ruff, with many signs of rust bubbles starting to pop through the paint. The complete front floor pans needed to be relaced. The undercarriage outrigers etc were so rusty that you could poke through the rust with your pinky. The cross frame members could be crushed with your hand like a empty soda can, the lower front nose was so rusty that only bumper and the paint hid the rust. The Bus may have been involved in an a accindent at some point because the front to back frame rails showed signs of being sloppy welded back together again and one side was bent in much more the the other side. The tires side walls were so rotted and checked that as I stood next to one I could hear the air leaking out. The engine had a knock, the clutch kept sticking, bad steering box, the list goes on and on. Even the interior was harshly faded and showed many signs of were, stains, etc. I think his kids use to use it for a play house. I beleive that the pics that the guy sent me were from the lady who he bought the bus from years ago after she had it repainted, etc, thus why the pics looked good, and the actual bus didn't look so good. So in short, after lossing a 1 1\2 days sleep c23, driving a hard 1400+ miles non stop execpt for fuel & P stops "use 2 drive trucks so use to long runs & no sleep" and about $500 lost in fuel and tolls, plus a loss of deposit on the rent a trailer it was an educating and tireing lost. In short I asked the seller why he could have been more honest about the Bus, he replied he was honest and called it as he saw it. I asked him if he had his glasses on or had a bad back or something and all it took was to bend the F-over and look! Needless to say we had a heated disagreement and almost got into it. ./// Two of them and me, but been there b-4 wouldn't punk down even at this age in life. &m&
sorry to hear, Jay. at least you saw it before plunking down the full price. ( I hate to ask how much he was asking for it) Be sure to follow up on this where you saw the ad- the samba allows you to rate the ads, I think craigs list does the same.
Like your saying- lesson learned.
Having looked at many buses before I found mine I know how dishonest most people are when trying to sell. Knowing how bad they rust out looking under the vehicle was the first thing I did. When I say looking under I mean going under and having a good look. People try to hide a host of bad chit that you just can't see bending down for a quick look. It makes you feel like slapping the dog chit out of them for wasting your time.
Maybe next time Jay, but look at one closer to home.

You know , this is a family site , Mr. Potty Mouth
Jay,
one more reason to never buy "sight unseen".
I got the Corvair for $505.00 off of e-bay. The car has had some half mooning rust repair including a couple of patches made with "stop signs". Now I wasn't expecting a show car and I knew that it needed work so when I went over to Pittman to pick it up I wasn't surprised. For the guy I bought it from was another story. He admitted to me he wasn't much of a car guy and bought the car off of ebay sight unseen. He also paid something like $3800.00 plus shipping and didn't get much driving time in it. The final blow for him was when the front brakes locked up and he didn't have a clue as to what was wrong so he just parked it next to his garage for 3 years and let the damp ground underneath feed the rust already on the car.
You might have lost some time, sleep and $ but you are ahead of the game when you passed on that one!

Relax, it just looks like a typo to me. :icon_cheesygrin: :icon_cheesygrin: :icon_cheesygrin:
I'm real sorry to hear that. Lesson to be learned here is to never buy a car without seeing it in person. I know believe me. I paid $3,000 plus $700 in shipping for my VW that I found on Ebay. Had I seen it in person I would not have paid a nickle more that $900 in fact I would not have bought it period. I could not be mad at the car though, in fact I felt sorry for it & vowed to bring it back to life. I don't think that I could ever bring myself to part with it now. However I will never ever again buy a vehicle that I can not inspect in person & to take it one step further... If I can't find what I want within a reasonable distance, well then for me it was not meant to be. The shame is that I truely believe that most people are good & honest, but getting ripped off & lied to causes me to think otherwise. Oh well... here endith the lesson.
Jay- I am so sorry it didn't work out for you, I kept my word and didn't say anything.
I remember when you first sent me the pictures and we talked about the bus.
Now I'm speechless buddy :wallbash:
After all that, I don't know how you were able to keep your cool.
Bud
If you hang out on the samba at all you'll also find that there are guys that will check out cars for you. Trick is, you have to hang out on the site to find out who really knows their you know what. And then trust them.
Yea, when I bought my 55 in Ca, I was taking a big risk; I told the seller firmly and absolutely in kinda a mean way that the car better be as he advertised cause I'm spending d-s d-s d-s flying out there, renting a car, hotel, etc. He said it was.
And it was..- actually quite a bit better than what he said. Plus he threw in car rack, and 3 other very expensive accessories for free. Sometimes one gets "lucky". There are still honest people out there.... shame you got the runaround, I would have been really angry. Did you go back, and leave a neg feedback on the guy? I would have; and also mention it in the samba bus forums... it's only right
matt
Thanks for everyones help and support, with all of the cars I have tried to buy over the years this one has been a royal pain. Almost as bad as a VW that I traveled into deep backwoods Georga, almost to the Gulf Coast to buy and it too was not as advertised. Now there's a deal that went bad and the good ole boys were not at all happy that this yank wasn't going to shell over the dough. That was about a 1800 miles jurney from hell.
Today I had contacted Everett and told him of my delemmia and I heard back from him today. Apperently this seller only joined Samba recently to use it as a venue to sell his Bus, apperently Everett dosn't appricate people like this that use his wonderful site only for their self gains. He's going to pull the guys ad from archives and email me it. It ain't over yet. I also have a few good leads on some other Splits, I'll keep you posted. But guess where one is loacted at? Yep the Deep South another road trip is in the making. :icon_thumright:
Good luck with the latest conquest. Cant wait to see the pictures! :icon_jokercolor:

I cant decide if I want a bus of a 1915 turnkey from chico =-) I've heard nothing but good things from them, and someone I've been talking to from dasvolks.com just installed one. For a 6,000 dollar turnkey, I might be able to get my VW Syncro. The dasvolks guys will be at Englishtown I'm looking forward to meeting them. The actually wanted me to drive up to Long Island NY and cruise in with them, I told them my <3 is with SJVWC. ;D
Hey John- Thanks for keeping my post numbers up. You type 3 guys are good for something.
