Wow what's wrong with it? That price seems way too low. I actually like it a lot. Where's the hack saw?

Hey That's not a BugaRu.... It's a BrataRu.. Actually I like it, and the price is right! Simply because it's like Jack. Different! Drop the nose, and put some wide Fatty Tires on the back of that baby, and it would have a totally radical look.  Anyone "Shawn" notice all of those other VDubs in the yard?  :icon_thumright:

If anybody wants to build one of these...I'm in (and I have the skills).  gifsawsall  With a little different roof transition, and the wood continued onto the door that could be an awesome car!

The best VW / woody I've ever seen is owned by a guy in Connecticut named Ernie. Saw this car at the litchfield show years back and it looked factory. It had the fabric roof with bows and mahogany panels just like a 1930s woody wagon. the back fenders were radiused  and sunk into the sides just like you would see on an old ford or packard. If done right they would be a great project. I'm going to have to go through all my old photos and see if I can find a shot of that one.

Just for the record...My mentor had a powder blue Squareback and a burgundy Fastback. He swore by those cars. I do like them and Weezer is one of the finest examples around. I just couldn't resist the jab  :icon_jokercolor:

(but I'd cut up a 57 vette if I thought i could make it better)

same here! my Dad drove a 69 square back for many years and he loved that car. It took everything he could throw at it, he used it like a truck to haul all kinds of stuff and it never left him sitting. That was over 25 years ago, lots of fond memories about that car.  sqBk

John,

you've got it all wrong, the POS Pintos blew up if you tapped them in the  back.  Poof

the Vega just stopped dead at about 50,000 miles. I had one of those POS junkers and the beer can lined engine gave out at just about 50K miles, no warning, no nuthin! just smoke and lost compression in 3 cylinders! talk about planned obsolescence!   c89

Stupid Aluminum engine. If you were smart, you  grabbed a unit out of a wrecked Pontiac Astra. Same motor (basically) ... All cast iron

actually mine was a Pontiac Astra, I just called it a Vega because other than the name it was the same POS. At the time I called around to see if I could find a "cast iron duke" or somebody who could "re sleeve" the engine. When you figured out what it would cost plus fixing the rust and replacing the sagging front springs it just wasn't worth the $$

I ended buying a Dodge Aspen wagon, that one was loaded with a slant 6 and every option known to man. The damn thing lasted to about 220,000 miles and finally the frame rotted out or I'd still be driving it!

Hey, stop picking on those T-3's.. I use to have one and it was a good little car, I bought it with a few other VW, and Buses back in the 70's when the owners family sold there fathers collection. I drove the chit out of that T-3 Wagon. Gots to search for a pic of it. I had owned a Cycle shop and used car lot at the time so I had dealer tags, so I was forever parking one car or bike and swaping tags to another and another. Early one morning I was on my way to Capemay to my offshore fishing boat in my 72 Westy, when the engine failed. I had the Bus towed back home and I pulled the engine out of the T-3 and installed it into the Bus. Took all of an Hour and we were back on the road again. So when I sold that Bus it was a T-2, T3 powered  bus)) .   sqBk

An even bigger bugaru abomination, but it *is* twin engined

And if anyone is seriously interested in building one of those VW woodies I have all the plans at my house for them.....someday I'll find the right donor and build one :)

 Hey Jim..

Looks like Pacer, I've always wanted a Pacer. Simply because there just ain't any arounds no mores.
Now that's different, did you see that he had two shifters I wonder if he ever get confussed which one to shift? I guess one's a auto and the other a stick?

Both stick...It seems like only one powerplant at a time screwey))
Title: Re: Strange thing on Samba - a BugaRu?
Post by: jthw8 on October 14, 2008, 10:08:40 pm
Yep, both stick only one running at a time...kinda the boring way to do twin engined.  Ive seen others where a single shifter will control both transmissions and both engines run simultaneously, fun stuff.

Pacers, Ive eyed up a few as rally candidates, they are still out there :)  And still so ugly they are cool.

I thought all factory subaru's were all wheel drive anyway? wouldn't it make more sense to modify the pan and frame and just find an axle for the back. For 20,000 STARTING it seems pretty stupid to me. Just my opinion.

Nope plenty of subarus were FWD only.
