Hey all -
First off, what can I do to change my username to GLHTurbo, I guess my fingers didn't like the R key when i signed up.
I have a 1964 Volksrod chopped 4", beam extender, 1600 DP engine, and am new to vw's. I also have a 1947 Ford Pickup I'm building (collecting parts at this stage).
I was wondering if there was anyone in central jersey that might be able to give me a hand with my car - or loan me a torque meister tool. I yanked the engine and need to install a new flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate. It would be nice to do it with the aid of someone who's done it before, I'm a bit nervous about setting the endplay.

Hey Marc, welcome to the site.
Most of us here don't do this work for a living. (with the exception of Rick, he owns a repair shop) I, like most of the other guys have just been wrenching on these things for so long that it comes as second nature. So when it comes to new members or even people new to the site, we like to get comfortable with you, your car and how long you have been/intend to be into VW's. So don't get offended if nobody jumps right in to offer you help right away. Also, since most of us live in the south jersey area, it might be tough to get someone to bring all their tools and personnel time to you. Hang out for a while, maybe try to make a meeting or two and then lets see what can be done. If you need the car right away, though, you may want to take it to a garage. (And even there we can tell you where to go or not go.)

BTW- you may be able to change your name in the profile settings on top of this page.
If you use the same three shims that are there your end play will be fine.
The torque of 225 ft lbs on the flywheel nut is very important to do or it will come loose, then you will need a new flywheel and crank.
You might try Central Jersey Volkswagen Society www.cjvws.com because they would be closer to you.

Out of curiosity, do you have a Goes Like Hell Turbo? They are killer pocket rockets! I learned to drive in my mothers 88(?) Omni...I use to try and pretend it was a GLH. In retrospect it probably wasn't a smart idea for me to be flooring it around the neighborhood when I was only 15 and no license :icon_wink:

i am up in middsex county also. These guys are some distance from us but are always helpful.
i have never used hodi's as suggested but i hear they are good. As for me i use my own mechanic who i have used for years. He is in sayreville.
