Title: Mounting that new TV
Post by: hockeydoc33 on December 28, 2008, 06:01:59 PM
I'm sure Santa brought many of you a cool big screen LCD or Plasma TV this year and your next non-VW project is to mount it on the wall.........

If you go to a local retailer, you will quickly discover that they have an unbelievable mark-up on wall mounts and cables.  You can end up paying hundreds of $$$ if you don't watch out.

Before you buy, check out this site - http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp (http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp)

I recently got all my stuff from them.

They're an electronic wholesaler with a complete selection of home theater stuff, cable etc.  You can get a Low Profile Wall Mount for a 60" for $19!

I've heard of them but I haven't bought anything there yet.  They have a good rating:

For those of you who want to run TV cables in the wall, here's a slick item that makes for a clean and "SAFE" install:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=105&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042505&p_id=4652&seq=1&format=2 (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=105&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042505&p_id=4652&seq=1&format=2)

This kit allows you to power the TV using standard Romex within the wall.  Having the cord at the other end allows for plugging into a surge protector.  The low voltage cables also run through the plate for a clean install.

SAFETY TIP - AS TEMPTING AS IT IS.... NEVER RUN THE TV POWER CORD IN THE WALL!
