I have always wondered what was up with this car

i left a note on the car asking about it. it was last inspected in 70. (jersy)

Looks pretty solid. Wasn't there a number on the truck that it's parked next to? I would have called that number.
I am not in to big of a rush. My wife gives me enough grief about a non running bus in the yard. it looks like it aint going anywhere either. at least I can push it into my yard!
Is there a for sale sign on it? If not is there a SJVWC brochure on it?
We really do need more type 3's! :icon_thumleft:
No for sale sign. It has been just sitting there for a long time. I am interested in it's story. I know a someone who lives next door. I asked him if he knew anything about it. He said he never has worked on one and i should be the chilton. (not whay i asked him) In his defence, he just got back from Amsterdam
well I found the family, I left my number with the wife.....lets see what the Ole man says
any update? bus))
no call yet. When knocked at the door his wife answered the door. She took my name and, number. She said they put it up for sale a few years ago and haven't done anything with it since. One of there kids started to say "dady said that...." before the mom hushed her. I got the impression that she wants it gone, but he doesn't. I will stop by next week if he doesn't call. maybe I can guilt him into selling it instead of letting it rot in a parking spot.
Keep talking to the wife. One thing I've learned is that wives always want you to get rid of that "piece of crap" in the driveway. Let her do the nagging for you.

"Truer words were never spoke"
I get the car on monday!!! I am a happy boy BOy**
so... tell us all about it! Is it closer to road worthiness than the bus?
(loveYes I think so.) He said that it was on the road a few years ago. Something happened that he got screwed on some brake work. he said That he would
have liked to get to it, for the last few years. but has been busy. I might have been crazy but he said it had 11,000 miles on it.
Ok
We should have a club day and check it out for him. (when its warmer) ;D
as soon as you can, lets see some photos. Does it have the original FI ? What year is it? Details, details!
Easy John...down boy. You're gushing
He said it was on the road just a few years ago. We will see.
sight unseen. How much would you guess it is worth?
he said 69, I will meet up with him tomorrow. I wonder if I should roll it home or get a tow truck. I could use my AAA card to tow it.

try to get it towed on a flat bed, you don't know if the tires will make it and if the brakes are ok or stuck. 69 should be fuel injected and a great year for T-3s !
FI started in 67 so it should be. the reason I ask is that most people got aggrivated trying to tune the FI, they would rip it out and try to bastardize carburators into it. Don't be intimidated by the injection. There is a ton of help on the samba type 3 site as well as I can hook you up with the type3 mailing list. This is a almost daily mailing list that does nothing but type 3's. It's kind of like an adult version of the samba. No whining, cursing or bragging done. Plus most of the FI gurus hang out on this site.
If you do AAA it you can request a flat bed. Tell them because of the short wheel base and the fact that the car is lowered, your afraid the back end will drag.
Front disc brakes in 69 also! Came standard.
I have tons of type 3 web sites for you if you really get into it, also.
Good luck with it. It's now a race between you and Frank to see who's fastback is on the road first.
Well I got the key today. He told me some of the story. He bought it off a little oldlady who would drive it to the jersy shore. It has 11,+ miles on it. It wasn't running when he bought it. Took it to a shop for them to get it running. The under quoted him and it was about 500 more for repairs than he wanted. They also changed the exhaust. He drove it for a little bit then whent through a ruff divorce. He hasn't touched it really after that. He would turn of over a few times then the battery died and hasn't gotten to it.
The underside is ruberized/ undercoated.
New brake calipers, the tires were new but shot now.
Be didn't know what all the buttons were. ( like the big metal leaver behind the E brake)
My biggest surprise was no engine tin!

now I need a name for it
Looks good.
So I need new tires. I was looking into 165 15's. They start at 60+.
I saw that you can run different sizes with out much trouble. Or should I just suck it up and keep stock?
Check prices at the tire rack online. They are at your door in 2 days and the price is great.

That's up to you - as long as there is nothing wrong with the diff sizes. Try to find some pics on the samba of them having diff tire sizes...maybe that would help you decide. Since I am pretty much a stock man, you can guess my response.
Glad you got it!
Matt
The tire rack dosent carry them. There is only 2 companies carrying that size.
I am going to try to keep this a stock as possable. The other thing isthat the window seals are N. A. ! I will need all 4. The only one is the windshield. The rest will have to be off of donar cars.

The computer time is all I can get. so send the links. I was reading one and thats where I got my info about no more seals. I am on my iPod at work. I am a kitchen manager and one of my cooks fractured his hand and I have been working 8 days in a row now. I hope I can have a day off soon! I get a new project and I am stuck here.
Also I think I tracked down one of the gremliens. He said he went to start it and it just would start. It was a new battery.
Well when I pulled it out this morning the battery ground was rusty! also It was completely dead....
You should let your kids name it!!! I'm going with Rusty Nail from Joy Ride 2.

Milo is drawing a blank. My wife called dibs, because I named the boys.
She named the Vw's so far. Our golf was named Todd, and she named the bus Argile.
Ooooooo I like argyle, that means you have to put an argyle pattern on the bus somewhere. How did she come up with Todd?
Milo loves the emoticons... Emo :icon_cheers: WA# BO** @@@ o142 hiphop
the tire place in berlin market did carry 165 15 tires pretty cheap

It was just a reaction to what the car felt like. It was tan and didn't stand out. My wife, among many things, is a poet. So far she is leaning twords Vincent. I was thing Conner. ( my street name is conarroe) but I don't like eiter of them.
OK I GOT some time to get to the car. I put a new battery in. cleaned the terminals. changed most of the fuses, (cleaned those terminals too) I get the red light/green light with the key. the hazards work, lights work. the urn signal is touchy AND flakey. the stereo makes no static, but I can here juice coming from the speaker. I can hear the double reley click when I turn the key but it wont crank at all. When I hit the break pedal the speaker crackles.
I am guessing a short some where. I hav't had a chance to get to the starter/ trans ground yet.
I ordered the work book/manual, tires and some of the gaskets...
