I know it may be difficult to price something you're not looking at but... I heard second or third hand about a 69 or 70 beetle with no motor for sale. Floors and channels are rusted out. Interior is there but seats are ripped. Rest of body looks good but no front fenders. Car hasn't been on the road for 10 years or so. The guy wants $500 firm. Does that seem high?
By time you done fixing it, the cost will be $3,500-4,000 or more, If you have that much it's better to buy somthing already done for that amount and save yourself a lot of work.
I think you can find a better deal than that.
My bug (73 Super) was a great find. Documented 11,000 miles on engine, metal sunroof (works), mostly solid. Paint in partial primer. Will need minor channel repair. (at least that is how it looks before tearing into it). Needed some interior work - under $600. Be patient and keep you eyes open!
Thanks for the replies. I do need to be patient. I'm not happy being temporarily laid off and I'm just getting figitty.(sp?) I guess I should stick with my original plan and get just an engine to mess with and learn on. I'll keep looking.
I agree, I was in a similar boat. I started to redo my 74 std and the further I got into it, the worse things were. then I got on the Samba and found my current car. 62 Ragtop original not a cut in, body off resto, procar seats and nice headliner and new canvas ragtop. The only thing bad was the engine, which was othe only thing good on my 74. I picked up the 62 for 3800 bucks. So, be very patient and the right car will come along.
I remember seeing your car when it was on thesamba. Very nice. Yeah I guess I gotta cool my jets and think realistically. I'm going to just get an engine to mess with. If anybody sees a 1600 around let me know. At least I can hide an engine from the wife easier than a whole car!! .///

The right car will appear when it is right, who knows, maybe after you rebuild a 1600, you will c 1 for sale that needs a motor and you will be set.
I have the 73 super beetle i gave up trying to fix rusted frame head body is in good shape and motor will run. I have it on craigs list for sale
Thanks Captjack. As of today I might have an engine lined up. So I'll put my energy into that for now. Thanks for the responses though. (love
Jack, Do you want to delete this topic? I probably won't be looking for a bug right now and focus on an engine project.
No need to delete topic, but anyone can delete his/her own topics by clicking on "Remove Topic" located at the bottom of each topic.
I guess I should have known i can delete my own post. I'll leave it alone i guess. Thanks
