Title: Steering Wheel Yayss and Boos
Post by: Beetleboi -Greg- on March 18, 2009, 11:44:14 PM
So today I got my new after-market steering wheel in the mail. I bought it because 1 the horn button use to pop off in my face over bumps, and 2 the wire running up to the horn button I had modified not realizing what I was doing...So I take off the old wheel, and examine the horn ring contacts *knowing that the horn never worked* I notice that they had grease on them and they they had holes in them. So knowing that I didn't have copper foil to temporarily fix this I wiped off the grease and hoped for the best. The wheel is smaller than I expected... 14 inches that I knew but I didn't think an inch from the original size would make a difference. Good thing I didn't cut the holes in the panels next to the speedo... yu wouldn't be able to see the gauges at all!! Anyway went own underneath the car and hooked up the original wires to the horn after putting new connectors on and tried the horn...turned the key on no sound. Since I was pressed for time I just hooked up the old wires and got ready for work. If I remember correctly I disconnected the hot wire to use that fuse to power the aftermarket horn button. It's just a matter of following that wire to see where it went.

Has anyone ever run wires from the horn up through that rubber tube to the fuse box? I know the one wire connects to the web of the steering wheel colume. Didn't know if it was possible, maybe using a coat hanger.

Wheel is aright, didn't use the scat horn button sticker... going to talk to Jim T about making me some vinyl stickers for my hubs and the horn button.
