Title: Hi from guest in England
Post by: CurlyBoyJones on April 10, 2009, 05:02:48 am
For now I just want to say hi from across the pond. I found my way here after watching the engine rebuild videos by '6d4vdub' on YouTube. Thanks to him for that. I hope he reads this.
Regards

Leave it to Jay to introduce me to someone, as I’m running back to my love bus from the pot. Thanks Jay, you’re so bad!

Welcome aboard CBJ and feel free to join in on any of our sometimes-outlandish conversations.

What V-Dubs are you driving and where are you in GB?

Jack, aka 6d4vdub, lovebus

Hi, My name is Kevin. I'm in the North of England, in Sheffield, Yorkshire.

I have a '68 1500 Bug and a '74 1303 Convertible. The 1500 was my first car. I've had it for 35 years. I have the engine in pieces at the moment so your videos were appreciated. I'm just building up stamina to finish it off. I did a lot of work on it up to 1989, Since then I've not driven it much I think I may drive it more this year. The 1303 I bought around 1990. I did some work over ten years ago. It needs quite a bit of work to bring it up to scratch.
I dropped out of the VW scene for a long time due to work and family commitments. Now I'm revisiting this interest, getting bitten by the bug again, so to speak.
I'll visit the site from time to time if that's ok?
Regards
CBJ

P.s. I am pretty familiar with most of the tunes in the background of Jacks vids.

Great Kevin, and it sounds like you know your way around a VW.

There is a new TV show airing right now about two guys in the UK restoring a 1303 and it looks like they really have their work cut out for them. Have you seen it? I don't know how many episodes there will be, but anyone thats has done one of them knows it's a lot of work.

Glad you have the time to get back into the hobby now and good luck with your engine, show us some pictures when you get it done.
Jack

Welcome Kevin! You're the second from UK to show up here recently. I guess the currents are just right.
We have a tendency to be visual on this board.

Show us some photos!

BTW... You kept your first car, I'm so jealous

HI.
Jack.
No I havn't seen the TV show re: 1303. I'll have a look for it.

Bahaha.
Photographs...OK. I'll need a little time to put something together.
I think it would be interesting to find an early photo (I supposeI can find one and scan it, subject to quality) to compare with a current one (Hopefully the sun will come out soon).
I may need some advice on posting though.
Regards
Kevin

PS. The '1303' program I believe is 'Beetle Crisis' it's broadcast on a subscription channel. Unfortunately I dont have it.

Yup, that’s the show Beetle Crisis.

Don’t that piss you off when you have to buy a lot of other junk channels just go see a particular show.

Fortunately, it’s on a non pay channel here.

One time I wanted the "Speed" channel and it didn't come with my package, so I called them up and said, It's not right that I have to buy 8 channels I'll never watch just to get the Speed channel. I said how about if I give you back the 15 Spanish chanels and the 50 music, and 20 kids channels I get and you give me the Speed channel.

And they ended up giving me the Speed channel. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

"And they ended up giving me the Speed channel." Nice one :-).

Thing is Jack, I'm not buying any channels...I'm a Yorkshireman.

A Yorkshireman is like a Scotsman, but without the generosity ;-).

Welcome to the new guy from across the pond! I'm new at the fixing VW's ... but thanks to countless SJVWC members ... I'm learning. Thanks to youtube ... you met the MAN! Don't let the music and dancing fool you ... he knows VW better than dance moves! Our members are good people with lots of opinions on the subject of VW.

best of luck with your projects ...

I've registered with the Gallery, and now need the authorisation to activate the account.
It will be the weekend now before I can resume this.
...watch this space.
