Title: Is this a huge problem II
Post by: marcr1 on June 20, 2009, 06:19:09 PM
going against my better judgment i deceided to have fun and change the fuel pump flange myself (as discussed in my previous post)

2 nuts 2 gaskets, new fuel pump flange some gasket sealent how hard could it be ?

i got everything changed, started the engine  and let it idle for about 10 min to my amazement no leaks. ok i was really amazed when the engine started.   took a short ride about 3 miles still no leaks.

took a longer ride and found it was leaking gas i think from the flange.  should i start over and try new gaskets or did i screw something else up.

If it's leaking gas at the flange, the pump diafram is bad and has to be replaced or the pump.

If you drive it a lot you will see in your oil and be able to smell gas on the dipstick.

i believe the fuel is coming out of the small hole at the bottem of the fuel pump.
is that a bad diafram(?) or to much pressure and i need to add a gasket.

Yes, it's the diafram and what don't run out the hole is going in the crankcase.

now that i ruined to mechanical fuel pumps, i will go to an electric pump.
do i need a regulator also or just the pump
