Title: Club USB Hard Drive - Limitations
Post by: rich67vw on August 05, 2009, 09:27:47 am
Oops, I meant to tell you folks a coupla things Monday about that 320 Gb hard drive I donated to the club:

- I installed a program on it to not accept certain types of music and to not accept photos or videos of a certain Type of VW  LAUGH@

- Do not use ANY type of hand cleaner to clean the drive of any old files.  @3#

Seriously, if you need anything else of a technical nature, let me know. I've worked with this I/T crap everyday for the last 30 years...

Thanks again Rich, I already created folders for some of our club videographers. I'll pass it onto Shawn on Saturday, then Shawn can pass it on to the next person at the next event. I wasn't sure if you can use the HD with Apples and PC's. I know my personal external HD will not work for my PC because it was formated to be used with my Mac.

Hi Greg, I'd suggest setting it up on a PC, since that is the most common deployment (No hit on Macs there, just fact). In order for you as a Apple user to access most of the stuff generated by PC users, you would need a software package like "NTFS for Mac" which is like $30.  It has to do with the type of files created by Microsoft vrs Apple, but I'm not here to bore you on that. I'll see if I can find some "free" shareware on that for you, if thats the way you want to go.

It's really about who you think will most use this.

Is that why Greg said the DVD of photos I gave him was blank?

Hmmmmmm I think if the files on the disk weren't compatible it would say something about this machine is unable to read this disk.

Well, maybe look at it this way:

Microsoft is to technology as Brazil is to VW parts.

" Oh, they didn't tell me that this fuel pump fits MOST VDubs, but not mine. Oh great!"
