Title: Finally done
Post by: Yuma on September 07, 2009, 08:39:31 pm
Finally got my generator replacement completed   BO**

pictures in the member area for photos

Has been too hot here to play with the Bug, weather finally cooled off   @7@

Had to get-ur-dun for the up coming ' Volkswagans on the River ' event here
in Yuma, in Nov.

Connected with some local guys in the club, they said they needed an engine for
the bus they were building for the event.  They sell raffle tickets for $ .50 each,
and the money goes to Amberly's Place here in Yuma.  The winner takes a bus
home  (love   They sold 20,000 tickets last year.  P#3
Just so happened I had a VW airplane engine sitting in the garage, long block,
single port.
They were here the next morning to collect the engine and a spare set of single
port heads that were just laying around in the garage.  The guys are old Pharts
just like me.  Turned out that i can see one of guys house from my back yard.
He lives on the next block over, and has two buses.

Will go to a club meeting Thurs night to learn more about the Club.
They said the club is open to all air cooled VW owners.   :icon_cheers:

My 67 Bug is running again and I'm ready   88*88

Hi Jay

The engine guy, James,  from the club said he thinks the VW airplane engine
is a stroker engine.

Will have to wait until later this week until he tears the engine down.

After market case, no telling, hope it works   :icon_thumright:

Hi Bud

No question is stupid  WA#

Fountain Hills, Az  is about 25 miles north east of Phoenix.
Phoenix is 165 miles east of Yuma or about 3 hours away.
Get out the Atlas, find Phoenix in the lower middle of the
state.  Find Scottsdale to the north of Phoenix,  Fountain
Hills is just east of Scottsdale.

Yuma is in the south west corner of Arizona.   drive&&

Thanks Sonny
Fountain Hills is where Everett Barnes and his wife live (Samba) The family was going to go out there
to visit him and see the sites, in an RV. But life happens with the wife being "sick" maybe one
day.
Thanks again
Bud

Next big $ item is tires, need all four.  These tires have been on the
Bug since the mid 80's  c23   Will keep the best one for a spare.
We actually found the spare wheel at my sister-in-law's house in
a pile of junk.  '67-'68 has unique wheels, so i found out.  The Hub cap
snaps onto the wheel on ridges, not clips, hard to find original wheel.
The tires on the car are by no means worn out, they actually look
almost new tread, but the weather checking on the side walls makes
me shudder.   !fright!  This car spent too many years in the southern
California desert, in the sun.  Took it's toll on many things.
Will keep you posted on the progress.
