From what I read the correct tires for my 71 bus are 185/R14C.
I would like to know if anyone knows where I can get the best price for them, with
shipping?
Thanks
Bud
Hi Bud..
Check out http://www.tirerack.com/index_w.jsp (http://www.tirerack.com/index_w.jsp)
They have the Best Prices and the tires will be at your door in a few days.
Bud,
The tire size you have bud is very close, they are a 185/R14D the only difference being the load range which is a D vs a C.
As a bus driver I can reccomend hankook Ra08 or Continental Vanco tires. The Hankook's are what I drive and I can tell you experience they are a major improvement from passenger grade tires, which I previously rode on. Bus depot sells the Hankooks for $75 a piece.
The other tire is a Continental Vanco tire. Jack has these on his bus and is also very happy with the switch up to a load range D tire. Not sure of the exact price but I believe they were in the same ballpark ($75 per).
Hope that helps.

Personally I prefer the Interco Super Swamper in the 31/9.50R-15 as used on the Blue Meanie. They list for $139 each and, according to Interco, have the "Most Aggressive Tread Pattern of ANY tire on the market" These babies will get you there and back no matter what!

I can't wait to start a thread war about Late bus tires! it seems to be a hobby of people on the samba.
what are they up to three stickies about it?
I run emergency spares on all 4, just in case I have an emergency.

I LIKE IT!! c23
Cooper SRM 2 LT fits the bill also
If your Thinking about Chinese made tires like HankooK etc, etc tier Better get them now because in a few days I hear that the U.S. Goverment is taxing on a Tariff of 35% per tire. @7@

Yeah I was reading it last night. Basicly it says if you run passenger car tires that your gonna die !fright! Gezz Looks like I'm gonna have to spend money the replace my passenger car tires instead of a sound system. :wallbash: and I won't be able to have white walls :icon_cry:

:icon_cheers: Thanks I just ordered a can BO**
I don't want to PAINT them only wanted to know your thoughts on size.
So I called my tire expert who deals in tires ONLY and I have bought tires from for the last 25 years or so. You can see them when you see them. Then complain LAUGH@
We went through this before http://sjvwc.net/forums/general-discussion/tires-on-bus/ (http://sjvwc.net/forums/general-discussion/tires-on-bus/) and if you don't get the right ones
you may as well leave
the old ones on.
You are so right Jack. But things have changed since March~ I bought "Big Jays" 75 bus, it has the very good wheels I like. A guy has been hounding me to sell him the 71, I said Not for Sale. When he saw the 75 he was right at my door asking me about it. SOOO I told him if he would pay for new tires and have them mounted on the rims from the 75 and mount them on the 71 he could have the bus after I remove all of the parts I wanted. Other wise I was going to scrap it. At the $75.00 a piece ($300) a few of the guys mentioned- plus mounting etc. It will only cost him $260 includes mounting and balancing plus HIS labor :icon_thumright:
Confused enough, well he is happy with the deal and so am I BO**
Now still waiting to hear back from Pat about the windshield weldface

Amen to that.
Bud if you go and get passenger tires on your bus after all the bus drivers on this forum and the samba told you not to then... well then you will have to swayyyyyyy us on why we should do the same to our buses LAUGH@
In all seriousness, it's your bus, it's your call .... you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink
Hold on guys, I never said I am putting passenger tires on the bus. I am putting the right tires for the weight load, at TODAYS spec. I'm not trying to sway anyone, nor do I care to.
As someone said to each his own @7@
Remember I had buses in the late 60's. I am not new to VW's just an old man
with good friends
P.S. I don't drink LAUGH@
Can't you just move up to a 15" wheel? This would allow you to use a variety of truck duty tires...Unless you are building a concourse Bus, this shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm all for buying American but this will backfire on the consumer.
Example: Chinese tire was $100.00 now $135.00
American tire maker should be happy that they are now cheaper and sales will go up...and sales will go up. American tire was $110.00 , now Chinese tire is $135.00. American tire maker will raise price to $129.00. Why? Because they can.... %6%

Yes I know these are ridiculously priced... and I can't find a rating on theme either.
