Title: Fun too not so Fun...
Post by: 3Gear on September 23, 2009, 09:52:28 AM
Well as some of you guys know I was doing the clutch in my daily driver this past weekend, which allowed me to reflect on how awesomely easy it is to work on a bug...
This first image is from saturday morning, after working from 9pm till 1am friday night...

The dirty Engine:

We split the engine and transmission, and that is where we had to stop...

It seems that the previous owner is a no good lying POS ahole mo fo  m-d &m& m-d2 %6% kickButt .///

Not only was the clutch totally fried, the flywheel was burnt to a crisp, both turbo housings were cracked, the transmission needs to be rebuilt, and the ECU wiring harness was managled, from this loser putting in a chip...  So I was totally lied too, annoying, but not the end of the world. At lease I know that I'll have a bulletproof drive train when I am done...  Boy do the car gods like to mess with me...

Lesson learned: Most people SUCK!
Sorry to hear about the Audi mess. You're right ... at the end of all of this you'll know that it will be correct ... because you did it you're self. You're much braver than me.
GOOD LUCK.

Yes most people outside our VW club suck!!!!

Nothing to do with bravery, Grey, my friend an awesome Audi Tech, and all around good guy is helping me! I would not even consider doing this with out his help...  It's wayyyy out of my league when it comes to turning wrenches...

Thanks for the well wishes :-)

You've gotten further than I would ever attempt! My first car was a 1965 Falcon which was easy to work on, and then got a newer car and basically through the wrench at it. You are right about classic VW's much nicer to work on! Keep your head up.

damn, hope you guys remember where everything goes when you put it all back! Looks like you have to rip the front off just to get to the alternator. Hope you get it sorted out and too bad the last owner was a lying sack of.....

Good thing you didn't sell that Lincoln!

I agree, I am not mad at the car just the PO. I really love the car, not as much as my not running bug but I love it...

That is the same thing the Audi Mechanics say about the S4...

I would not have tried it alone...

Thanks everyone for the  (love  and Mike C for the hoist  :icon_cheers:

So in about a month I'll be able to send the transmission out for the rebuild... Murphy's Law, the only reliable rebuild company is in the process of moving.  The bad, they are not doing any transmission work for 4 to 5 weeks.  The good, I won't have to ship it to Californina, just West Virginia...

We found a set of just about new stock turbos for the car, for a third of what new ones would be...  Still twice what it cost me for my  vwlogo engine rebuild...   c23

Marc, At least with the tranny ordeal, you can slow down on the attack on the car. Take you time with the hoist. I have no immediate need for it. But I am eyeing another car on c.....list!

Thanks!!!  True, I now have the time to check everything on the motor... I am glad we did the clutch by pulling the motor, otherwise we would not have seen the cracked turbo housings.

if you are looking for another car make sure it is not an audi, because:

Audi's are like strippers, they don't work unless you throw money at them...

I never realized how true that quote was untill I owned mine...

LAUGH@ LAUGH@ LAUGH@

True but I never saw an AWD, Twin Turbo stripper!
(insert twin turbo joke here......)

I'm sure when everything is hooked up and correct you will enjoy that car. A friends son built a very trick AWD & turboed Eagle tallon. The car was scarey fast and could hold the road better than anything I've seen but the kid went broke trying to keep it running. In the end he sold it for much less than he had in it. Sounds like your car is going back to stock which should be fun and fast enough!

Whoa Marc!  what a job!  Shame about the PO  I hate when people do that- great mechanical experience though - but not your preferred way of getting it I'm sure.  Least it will be done right!

The worst part is for what I am dumping into the Audi,  I could have turned my bug into a baja-a-ru...   @7@
