Title: So what's YOUR winter project?
Post by: Beetleboi -Greg- on October 06, 2009, 12:33:55 am
So what is everybody's winter projects?

I'll start.

Window Seals
Head Liner
Rear Window tinting... I heard somebody in the club knows what they are doing.  sqBk
Beetle Camper Conversion... yes I'm going through with it. Just need to figure out what to do with the battery maybe just put a piece of wood over it.

Repainting the black gloss in the next two months.

Rewiring the front to back engine connections
Finishing the underhood fiberglass
Re-painting the interior

I am hoping to replace the rear fenders and use 1964 vintage taillights. Replace the front running light/turn signal with something different, possible front suspension improvement with a 1 1/2-2" drop. The chopping will have to wait as I am selling my 68 Mustang coupe (I am buying a 65 Mustang vert that has been sleeping for a very long time. 31 years!)

Well, first will be to get the Audi back on the road... After that I plan to repace the pans in my baja, the PO had done some really poor patch work.  If I am able to get that done the next thing to do is some fiberglass patching, then install my replacment doors... I could keep listing things but that would just get depressing.

I'm hoping to put a nice aluminum block based motor together this winter if the funds are there. I'm pretty sure that I am going to build a turbo motor. Right now I am thinking something in the 2110 to 2276 range, but I have to work out all the details (mainly which heads & cam I will run, since that dictates the rest). I might go with a 2165. It will most likely be a 6000 RPM max setup. Anything more than that just pounds the bearings & you don't need to rev a turbo motor to get power out of it. It will stay fuel injected & will have supplimentary methanol injection for boosts above 10 or 12# and it will be air to water intercooled. I don't anticipate doing burnouts or launching on slicks, but I do want to beef up the trans or move over to an 002 or 091 Bus.

Of course all of this gives rise to bigger brakes, better axles and what wheels I want to run. Thinking of machining my own wheels...The list goes on & on. Time & $$$

I'll have to use the search feature on this site to find out how to replace all the chrome.
I can't remember who posted it, but the step by step for that is here somewhere. I'll look for that when I get that far into the project. My brain doesn't hold as much as it used too. itstrue

@7@ I think we should ban theses AZ guys from the site for the winter, I can see whats coming while we are freezing.

AZ-Went for a dip in the pool today.  NJ-the lake froze over last night.
AZ -Gee, I wish it would cool off a little.    NJ-went down to 15o today
AZ -Had to take my shirt off while working on the car.  NJ-car won't turn over, to cold.
AZ -Thought I would get a few rays today to help my tan.  NJ-had to dig out the long jons today.
etc.
etc.
etc.

take a 51 year old car that noone has ever heard of and:

Convert it from front engine front drive to rear engine rear drive using VW suspension components and transmission welded to the stock frame while extending the stock wheelbase by approximately 4 inches
Install 2.2 Subaru engine in aforementioned vehicle
Take molds of front clip and rear fenders, recreate in fiberglass 4-6 inches wider
Plumb brake system, fuel system, hydraulic clutch
Convert to 4 wheel disk
Wire car
Install 6 point roll cage
Loose my friggin mind

Jack,Jack,Jack...... @7@

Let me put these absurd notions you have to rest once and for all. @3#
Went for a dip...nonsense. I only have until the end of the month, maybe first week in November.
Wish it would cool off a little...I"ll have you know that there are some days it doesn't get up to 70....until 11:00am  m-d
Take my shirt off to work on the car?!? Shirts are only worn in public...or when a good looking girl walks down the street. I used to be good looking when I was younger. But now the girls look at me and think...EWWWWWWW!!!! :icon_eek:
Help my tan...no one here needs help. It is a year round thing. :icon_cheesygrin:
Who is this long jon person? We have a Long Johns but it is a place that sells fish. I don't know what that has to do with winter. ???

As cold as it gets there in the winter wethsnow wethsnow wethsnow wethsnow wethsnow it is just as hot during the summer here. :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny:

Overall I think you might have the advantage. You can always put on more clothes...I can only take so many off mooning

Last night I made up a "To do List" under it I wrote " So much to do, so little time"

But I know the real answer- With all of the get well  fruit baskets Joan got, I will be
spending all my time getting rid of the fruit flies  @7@  fig2   %6%

No help needed, we got 3 million ideas already. My answer-burn the place down
and buy a class A motorhome  .///    OOPS I'm a life time member of the fire co.  @3#
