So I have myself an extra Hydro cam from my engine pulling. I was thinking of selling it, but I havn't seen any for sale on the samba. they run 250 or so new, what would be a fair price for a used one?
70$

Not even a smart a** coment?
I just miked it and it is within spec.
Or do people just not buy used cams?

Don't know about a hydro cam but I would never put a used cam in an engine for a simple reason. The lobes and lifters "break in' together and "work harden". If you were to reuse a cam with new lifters the wear patterns & different hardness factors could cause some problems. If you had the original lifters and kept them in the order they were in when working with the cam it might work ok.

Does that make the cam worthless? I thought with a new lifters it would work. I hate to trash it if some one could use it.

Make a trophy out of it... or a lamp. Don't think you'll find anyone who'd do a rebuild and would replace their cam with anything but new

ok Tropy it is. gifsawsall

Flea Bay ? some people will buy anything..

There's absolutely nothing wrong with running a used hydraulic cam. New lifters are not an issue with a used hydraulic cam either. A flat tappet solid lifter cam, like the stock Type1, is a different animal altogether. You don't need to break in a hydraulic cam like a solid cam & the lobes on a hyd cam usually aren't wiped out.
I'm sure somebody will buy it on the Samba or Ebay. If they get $250 for a new one, ask $35-50 for it. Somebody will eventually buy it...and a Samba ad is free.

what was the margin of error for the survey ? was it a double blind survey?
did the test for regional variances?
