Title: Out of State Title Transfers
Post by: Mildred72 on February 06, 2010, 08:27:32 am
How do out of state title transfers work? The bus I may be purchasing is in Philadelphia but I live in NJ. Do you go to the DMV in PA or NJ to do the transfering?

you should be able to do it all in NJ. Be sure to have all your documentation- bill of sale, title, I even like to have the previous owners registartion info with me. I find with DMV, the more paper work you have, the better the results

Thanks 6T5 Square. This bus was just taken off the road last month, so I'm sure the p/o has all that info. She will be coming with me to the DMV. The P/O mentioned doing the title change at AAA, have you ever heard anything about that.

I used to work for AAA in Philly (& my mom worked there for 23 years). They do tags & transfers in PA, not NJ. In PA wasn't uncommon to transfer title OUT of PO's name (Witnessed signing) to release them from any future liability. The new owner then takes it to their state and registers it. But I don't know if that's still done

My rig came from Florida. Just took the Florida title & nothing else to NJ DMV. No problems took 10 minutes to print NJ title & send me on my merry way

Ok thanks guys, now I have to create a lie why I have to use my AAA to tow a vehicle that isn't in my name. =-/

Wow Mildred you sound like you are busy. 2 aircooled VW's a kid and lost arts. How do you manage?
And with AAA it is the member not the car. So if you were in someone else's car. They don't mind

Knitting it cool. My mom taught me how to do it, think I may still remember how.

Had a prob that I kept "misplacing" the long knitting needles...

Seems like the people who made fun of me doing it "had" them..
took quite a bit of surgery to remove ... :icon_twisted:

If it's a Pa Title, it has a place for a notery to sign and be stamped. But I beleive that this is only current for Pa-Pa sales of newer auto's etc. I have purchased several VW's from Pa and recently took one of my stored Bus's that has a Pa title to NJ DMV and asked them about if I needed it noterized? They said no. just fill out your and the seller's info you do not need it to be Notery. I've done this a few years ago, and was told the samething back then "Marc's Brick Bus" so the rule still stands. Word of warning. Do not enter the Date of sale until your ready to go to NJ DMV because if the date of sale is older then 10 days they will hit you for additional funds even if only a day over! You do realize that the States Broke so trust me they will nail you for what they can get. Also pay close attention to the color on the Title, if your planning on painting it Blue tell them it is Blue and fight your fight while at the counter so the title can be corrected while your standing there. Your Title transfer will be $60.00 "it was just raised from $20.00" plus tages, sales Tax, etc, etc. Bring your check book.  drive&&

Thanks Jay, the title situation was resolved. I'm waiting to hear from two other people for classic tags, if all else fails I will go with Geico insurance and slap QQ's on her. Hagery wanted a DNA sample and a pee test not to mention mom and dad's drivers licenses ALL the cars they own and our pet's names. I might just get regular tags but then I KNOW it will become my D/D ha ha.
