Because I can see more then one part I dont have a clue what part your talking about.

The illustration indicates TWO cable/rod attachment points. Yours has only one. The unattached rod on the right needs a home. So either it is not the right assembly OR it is broken.

As I am diabetic I will accept an Equal packet please

looks like the locking mechanism is missing?  or an attachment for a second latch assembly

Jack talking about the missing part that the other cable shout attach too, I think I have a Vanagon assembly.

Vanagon assembly is much larger.  I just looked at VW's ETKA catalog and the one in the photograph looks right. Ironically, it doesn't show where the second cable attaches, but it does label it as "pull rod for remote control lock"
