Title: BEATING THE WINTER BLUES
Post by: VWPANZER1 on February 15, 2010, 11:14:40 AM
To us car guys the snow and sub-zero temperatures mark a low point in our sport. However all is not lost. To keep the momentum going on your project here are a few suggestion that can ward off the feeling that your paralyzed and can do nothing until spring arrives or at least until the temperatures get above the freezing point of 10-40.

While none of these ideas are ground breaking and I'm sure any of you can come up with additional suggestion here's a start:

MAKE A LIST WITH A TIME LINE ? Try breaking the large jobs into smaller ones.

BUY YOUR PARTS NOW.  Don't wait till spring. Buy your paints and tools you may need now.

BUY PARTS ON LINE ?Now is the time to shop carefully. I find the best bargains are still on eBay. Samba prices seem to be climbing out of sight; while you can make an offer you can't beat winning a low bid on eBay.

BUNDLE UP and plan limit your outdoor or shed work to 10-20 minutes.
There's a physiological advantage if you convince your self you only have to suffer for a short amount of time.

REMOVE what you can and take indoors to finish up.

WATCH SHOWS on rebuilding cars.  ?Chop-shop Rebuild? ?Hot Rod TV? ?Gears? ?Truck U?  ?OUTRAGEOUS 4x4's? ?Detroit Iron?, etc, etc. Nothing fires me up more than seeing some rusted hulk turn into a gem.

CAMARADERIE:  Get out and see what other members are doing. Lend a hand.
Come to meetings, go to Breakfast. Discuss your building problems and/or ideas
with friends or on line. Visit friends who are re-building, restoring, creating cars other than VW?s.

An extra hour to watch the snow falling!
I am all for working in the cold, but my neighbor was nice enough to plow my driveway with his little excavator, I now have a 6 foot wall blocking my bus.
Not complaining though.

Great advice Joe!

I've got a wall of snow in front of the garage so I won't be seeing the inside for some time. I usually have a couple of winter projects going ( like Mikes engine 2 years ago ) but not the case this year. TV is a great motivator and watching all those shows gives you ideas and keeps you in the loop! Yea, like everybody else I can't wait until spring.

I thimk Joe's ideas are great, let my add one more. If you bought a VW ~ Bug,Bus etc. for spare parts
keep it you never know when you'll need it. So listening to Joan ( the smart one) that is what I am going to do with my 75 bus, who knows where I'll find another one for parts. plus it isn't taking up any room on our grounds.
A word of advice (from the smart one)  Charity begins at home, but a helping hand never hurts either  :icon_cheers:

Beside that, the "junk" bus motor runs and you never know what might be hidden inside
wrapped in some old crappy foam was an orignal "OLD" radio that is selling on Samba for $100.00+
