Title: Newb with a '67 baja from deptford
Post by: 67baja on August 16, 2010, 10:56:45 PM
just bought my first vw about a week ago and i am looking to get involved with a group that will give me insight on repairs and some more baja bugs to baja with.

right now i live in deptford and wheel my jeep regularly on the trails back in wharton state forest. i bought the bug to build as a go fast toy for those roads.

anyway i bought it off a guy in vineland for 1000 bucks. its got the dual port 1600 bus reduction boxes and new tires.

i am a pretty decent fabricator and not to bad at bodywork. i plan on doing the heater channels and fixing all the little rust spots over the winter.

right now i am working on fixing the hack job redux swap and looking for a shop in the area that sells parts so i can get new cv boots.

Rich, click on the Links button on the tool bar it will help you find stuff you may need.

As far Oil Temp. goes a   Oil TempDip Stick (http://www.geneberg.com/product_info.php?products_id=256) from Gene Berg is a very good choice.

It would also be beneficial to you to read through his Tech Tips.

Welcome Rich.

I've read about the Bugzyla setup but never actually seen one. I'm not so sure it's done wrong...It just looks like it was moved forward to shorten travel (Why I couldn't guess)

Those reduction boxes 'll make that car a mountain goat. More for climbing than flat out speed. Theres a lot of weight out there & I hear wheel hop is a b!*@h, but everybody who runs it loves it.

I just use 31" Super Swampers for my ground clearance

Sweet ride. Can't wait to see it in person.

Now I see it... It looks like he's got long travel adjustable spring plates on there. They might have screwed up the geometry if he bolted it to the "factory" holes

It looks like the axles would be way out of line if they were moved back to the other bolt holes and that would be havoc on the fulcrum plates.

the axle was too far forward the old way and the adapters were upside down. i fliped it and used the original bolt holes and everything lines up great except the factory shock mounts wont work. my guess is the guy did all that to keep the shock mounts. i am just going to make my own

yes he has a 1977 std. i took care of some rust issues on it but he don't want to join the club. i already tried. the black 67 mustang in his driveway is also for sale just throwing that out there.
