You all might want to read what Jake has to say;

All this is true that oil companys producers have reduced the wear additives they put into their oils, but there are other choices.
I covered this at various meetings, quoting Hotrod, Streetrodder and Rod and Custom; they were issueing the same warning for flat tappit cams.
What Jake R. and other oil engineering firms that have a vestd interest in selling their product is not telling you is that:
You can buy the Zink/XXX additives to add to your regular oil change.
Any Motorcycle oil has the additives. (Harley's are pretty much 2 cylinder VW's (I know they have roller bearings not babbit)

So then what is the consensus? A good 10W30 with zinc additive?

So I'm talking about this controversy at work and my boss who is also my childhood friend is just taking it all in. The next morning this was sitting on my desk....

Then while pointing and laughing at me he reminded me that we wiped about 8 cams in the 2000 modified season before we found out.
So I have $120 bucks worth of the stuff now.
Now that I have told tis story. Mr Lovebus (AKA E.F.Hutton) is trying to get our attention regarding this matter over here http://www.sjvwc.net/forums/index.php/topic,7043.0/topicseen.html
