Title: Something For John G...
Post by: 3Gear on January 30, 2011, 04:59:09 pm
I was  converting some slides for my Dad of the Gemini space capsule recovery while he was on the uss wasp, and came across these 2 photo's of my parents 69 or 70 Squareback, pulling a camper trailer... Which they towed everywhere, and up and down the mountains in PA...  Enjoy!

VERY COOL!

See, I told you guys type 3's can go camping!

And yes Shawn, type 3's actually tow better than beetles. But I wouldnt be surprised if the trailer probably weighed as much as the car!

BTW- there is somebody on the samba that is now making tow bars for type 3's.

Sorry I don't have pictures but, back in the late "70s and early "80s my wife drove a red automatic 1970 Square back w/AC and I drove a 1967 Sea Sand Square back. They sure haul a lot more than Bugs. In fact our son was almost born in the back of my '67. I even lifted my '67 and called it a Baja Square back!
Cheers,
Bob

Nope  Right family tree, it was my Mom, she always rocked short hair. I think the photo was from the summer before I was born so it should be 69, so that would make the square a 69 not a 70...

small bullet turn signals say it's a 68 or 69 US model. Chrome trim says it's a S model (upgraded)

Then I would bet itis a 69, my dad thought it was a 69 or 70, I told him that once the photo was posted someone would know what year it was... ;-)
