Marks ad on Craigs List, this is a GREAT BUY
This bus is a solid dependable runner, and needs absolutely nothing except for a new owner. She can easily maintain Highway speeds, looks and runs cool.
Here is just some of the upgrades that I have done and only put about a 1,000 miles on it since.
New correct Hankook 8 ply RA08?s tires. Brake pads, shoes, drums, calipers & rotors. New shocks, axels & CV joints. New battery. Still has the fuel injection setup. It starts runs and idles almost as well as a modern day FI car. It has new injectors, air flow meter, fuel regulator, double relay & fuel lines, pump and filter etc. Replaced steering box with a very Low mileage used one. It now has less than ?? of play at the wheel. Front end is tight & solid. New front shifter bushings and new Trigger shifter with Lockout safety reverse.. Shifter and linkage is now firm and smooth with none of the slop found in most older Buses.
Motor was replaced with a rebuilt 1.8 by previous owner. Has good compression & burns no oil. I
did have to replace the oil cooler though due to a small oil weep. It?s actually to your advantage to have the 1.8 as the ?79 2 liter had a lot of one year only parts. Heater boxes, heads & exhaust systems are cheaper & easier to come by for the 1.8. Oh and the horse power is the same just 5 pounds less torque.
I did personalize this rig to my taste with the following. Non stock front seats (way more comfortable than the stock units) Old school CB radio with 104? whip antenna, tach & volt gauge in stock radio location, driving lights, third brake light, under dash mounted MP3 compatible sound system along with 500 watt amp & 10? sub woofer. I also retrofitted a Vanagon fold out bed & cabinet. (I do have the original back seat if you want it) and a working old school spot light.
The New configuration Bench / Bed has served me well as a day / weekend camper, and makes this rig much more versatile and useable. This Bay Window is different and I tried to give it some old school personality. Most viewers find it to their liking.
Negatives, just a few little things. When gas gauge reaches empty you still have a half tank. Stone chip and small crack on passenger side of windshield. (Never bothered me had no intention of replacing). One of the slider door windows is Plexiglas but a complete "hard to come by" set of original slider windows units comes with the deal. Some of the usual bus rust on dog legs, under slider & rear apron. Easy to fix, but has been treated to prevent further rust. The Underside is solid & was undercoated when new. This Bay has been kept indoors & has not seen rain in many years.
I restored and upgraded it to be the safe dependable Highway runner she currently is.
Serious Lookers only, if it's not your cup of tea please don?t waste my time and yours. Someone will recognize it's uniqueness, and strengths
I will gladly answer any and all question via email through this web site.
If your interested in seeing the Bus please contact me and I'll arrange for it to be viewed.
Thanks for looking

I talked to Mark today and he is fine. The reason he is selling the VW's is because he needs money for a 1962 Buick rat rod. He said it is one of his all time fav's. I'm waiting for a Picture to share.
He Just sold the Rat bug. The bug did not go far, as a good friend of mine picked it up. Hopefully he wil be coming out on cruises soon.

Taking it to it's new home.
I think Mark is keeping the bus so he said?
Cheers

Time for me to go in a new direction which is back to my roots & Detroit Iron. Ah, but no Chevy's with 350 small blocks for me. 1961 Buick Special. Been lusting for one of these for 20 years. Never thought I'd find one let alone acquire. But with Jays help & guidance I now have one.
That's why one of my rigs had to go. A friend of Glens bought my Rat. He's thrilled and that makes me very happy. And I still get to keep the Sultans Den.
