Title: Bus owners, need help!
Post by: jthw8 on May 17, 2011, 04:56:40 pm
Ok, its rally time again.  This year I'm on staff (but still putting together a craptacular car to drive in)

Anyone one of the challenges Im setting up for the event is a fuel economy challenge.  The goal is not to have the best or worst but to see what cars still score close to their EPA or factory claimed higway rating.

Well wouldn't you know it one of the teams is bringing a 1970 Westfalia which is a bit older than fueleconomy.gov tends to track.

Does anyone have information on the factory highway fuel economy rating or failing that can I get some real world numbers from the folks that are driving 1600 powered Busses?

Thanks!

Well now, I think my bus did quite well on the trip to Beavertown and back, my estimate is 16-MPG I won't know for sure till I top off the tank and see how many gal. I used on the trip home, I'm guessing 7 and I think it was 8 on the trip up. It may be more like 15 MPG.

I don't think any Westy could get 22 MPG loaded up for camping.

Is that the Westy? It looks like the Vanagon specs. I remember somewhere seeing 17 mpg on the Westy
