Snag-it is a nice tool. And while I have Snag-it, it's far less complicated than that.

You can copy anything you see on your screen simply by holding the ALT or CTRL key and pressing the PrtScrn button.
(Alt will copy the contents of an active window, while Ctrl will copy the entire screen)
Then open your favorite editing program (photoshop, paint etc) & paste it as a new image.
Crop off the unwanted area & viola'!
