				Hi,

I know this is a lot to ask,  but is there anyone with experience with these vehicles willing to look at a car in Bloomfield for me?
I will certainly pay you an "evaluation" fee for your trouble.

Please let me know and I can forward you a link to the vehicle.

Thanks so much.  My gratitude is eternal!

 Hi Karen,

Take your time and look around, it's good to see what is out there, and get acquainted with prices, vs car  type vs car condition etc.
There are a lot of cars on www.thesamba.com  - under classifieds  to help you get grounded well.
One benefit from club members, when they sell a car, they are straight up -

Good luck and enjoy the shopping!

Thanks, Matt.  It's a big decision and I need to learn as much as I can about these vehicles.  I'd never be a mechanic like all of you seem to be, but at least I can make informed decisions... or at least good guesses! lol    It's amazing how much of your own work many of you do.  Bodywork,  brakes, engines, electrical..  Really impressive.   clap2-*

Keep in mind Karen, that VolksWagen means peoples car or car of the people.
It was always intended to be simple enough for the common man to keep going.
The Beetle isn't any more complicated than a lawn tractor.
Once you've owned one for a while, you learn what makes it tick.

Take your Beetle to a mechanic:

 Lube, Oil, Filter... $35
 Tune-Up... 2hrs Labor $190, Parts $100
 New Belt... 1hr labor$95 Part $20

 $440

Do it yourself: These things are easy, once you learn.

Oil $15. Filter $3 Grease $1 (After you own the gun)
Tune-Up... 1 hr of your time  Parts $30 (Guess what...The shop marks up the parts and pads the labor!)
New belt $10 and 5 mins of your time (They charge a min 1 hr)

 $59

Savings... $381. That's 3000 miles worth of gas for your Beetle!

And if it's a big job, you can count on your friends at the club to help out...

All I can say is, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!     That was incredible!  Was that one day worth of work?   You guys ... you're pros!  Wow.  I don't even know what to say..

Shawn that's great information about the car and savings if you do things yourself,  however I am not mechanically inclined although I'd be willing to learn.

That video has been on YouTube for more than 2 years. I could hear the original. But I swapped it so everyone could see it.

Greg needed a bunch of little stuff done and that would have taken any one of us a few weeks of nights after work to do but he offered free food!

About a dozen people showed up. We pulled the motor and split up into teams. Motor guys, trans seal team, parts washers, and the video crew. He drove it there in the morning and drove it home a few hours later.

This is the best bunch of people I have ever known...

Check out my other videos on youtube...
We put out a call to finish Jacks little speedster. It sat for 6 months because he hated body wprk. We put out a call and more than 15 people showed up to do body work.
A bunch showed up at my place and we put the exhaust system on Tracy's Westy. I had been working for weeks to get it done. They took 4 hours. Cost me some hamburgers and hot dogs.

VWs are a way of life and the people who have them are awesome!  =+grouphu9
