I promise I won't keep doing this... I know I'm being a pain. Sorry.

Not much to tell you that hasn't been said before about used cars except it looks nice.
-
That's true. I'm sorry I keep bothering you all with this stuff. I'll get an inspection done and see what happens. Thanks.

No bother at all. We love buying a car with someone elses' money!!! We'll lokk at as many as you want #@rofl3

Thanks Shawn.

Karen, its never a bother, don't take my post the wrong way.

Never buy a car off Ebay unless you or someone qualified can take a close look at it. I speak from experience. I bought a VW Bug on Ebay without doing this and it was a virtualy worthless piece of junk. bawlin)0 &(rage_ Of course I went ahead and rebuilt it anyway whistleegi

There's a place that will inspect it for a fee, and I sent them an email asking them how qualified their technicians are at assessing older vehicles.
We've actually purchased quite a few vehicles from Ebay and never had a problem. A car I just sold was purchased from Ebay and it was beautiful. (I miss her.. long story of why it was sold).

the words- "not much horsepower" would concern me. VW's are not known as muscle cars as anyone that has driven one will tell you, so when an owner states that it doesnt have much horsepower, I would be concerned about a tired or broken engine- something you dont typically see in an inspection.
Offer him 3 but I would still inspect- especially compression on the engine
-
You know even I thought the horsepower comment was strange, and I don't know much about these cars. Common sense would tell you that 1600 cc or more doesn't produce much, so an odd comment from the seller who is supposedly familiar with the car and their normal state.
My concern with the inspection company is that they won't know enough about vw' s, and checking compression probably isn't something they do... or know how to do.
I mean, if Im going to buy the thing I don't want to have to dump another engine into it. I was really kind of hoping for something to buy and drive
( well... once I learn the stick thing.. lol) , and that doesn't have a lot of issues. Some are to be expected, but I don't want a lot. Especially when I don't have a mechanic close by.
<sigh> Dontcha just love car shopping.. &hahano

In case anyone ever wants to use the car inspection company "Inspect My Ride" at InspectMyRide.com , please be aware that they don't usually inspect vehicles that are older than 1981.
So much for THAT idea... lol

"This is a great candidate for a complete restoration" ??? [gunfiring\ so it needs a lot of work. plus autostick. i have one they are great when they work. but when it breaks, it breaks. 2@cent
-
Several people have said the autosticks can be a real problem. That's just the wimp in me trying to get around learning to drive a real stick! lol
Yes, I really don't want a "candidate."
-
You can learn how to drive a stick! millions of people have !
no worries! byeby.,
oh yea, I do not like the horsepower comment either.
Do your inspectors do compression tests?.........
matt
-
No, Matt, they don't. They basically check to see if it starts, how thick the paint is with the meter( if there's body work) and take digital pics. They don't assess mechanical issues, don't put it up on a lift to check the undercarriage, and don't even test drive the cars. I was wondering what the point of the inspection was because any vehicle can be prettied up, but they don't check the mechanics of it? They offered me a discounted price of $80 to do this! The regular price is $130. Thanks, but no thanks.

STAY AWAY...

It's easy. Michelle drives their bus like a pro...Yucell, on the other hand, bugey--

Maybe I should buy extra whiplash collars when I buy mine, and give some to Yucel for his passengers? #@rofl3 JKgif
