Title: VALVE COVER RACER
Post by: VWPANZER1 on August 30, 2011, 01:47:38 pm
Talking to Jeff at Bugs and Busses in Barnegat he said that they (CJVWS) had just made a new track for a new event this year at Flanders.
    "VALVE COVER RACING."

I think SJVW could make (another) a good showing by building a bunch of them.

Here is a model I just completed.

Having built a couple of trophy winning Pinewood Derby cars for Gina when she was in the Indian Guides, here are a couple of stratagies for a winning racer.

1. The longer the wheelbase the straighter it will track. A straight running car will beat a faster one. ( Note: a Rabbit valve cover is a lot longer then an aircooled one. )
2. Keep the weight in the back.
3. The narrower the wheels the less drag on the air and track-faster.
4. Polish the axils, bearings etc. Use dry graphite lub.

if im not wrong, it's ONLY aircooled valve covers used in the races. Lets see some racers debut, while Rebel Racer is waiting to defeat u beginners! LOL

You would think so, but he said any kind of VW valve cover. However he said he would post some rules on the site soon.

Here are some U-tube valve cover racers:

I think the Slow Rider's Slam valve cover racers are much more creative.  See the link here on our very own website, captured by non other than Jack...

(If that link doesn't work... it's under "Slow Riders Slam Part 2" in Videos of Events section. )

You've got the clear advantage. The thinner the wheel the less drag-hence the faster it goes.  :jump4jo":

Joe, i changed those wheels. The bolt head kept getting caught on the divider and edge of the track, falling off or doing a 360 wipeout! I have a new set of wheels that looks like a Baja Bug! Eve have sponsor decals.. no pics yet! i'll be displayng at DOTB!!!! along with the  ^NO1) from the Slowriders show.
