Title: Any thoughts on this topic?
Post by: Soul Rebel 67(Ramon) on September 05, 2011, 04:30:13 pm
I posted this on the samba because i'm looking for a good way to attach my sidepods permanently to the body without having cracks in the future. I'm looking for feedbacks on glues/adhesives/boding agents.  byeby., and after i'm done all the fiberglassing, i'm having a sanding party to have a few people over to help sand the body by hand.. masks and coveralls will be provided for helpers! any comments please feel free to post on the samba or here so i can be more informed on this buggy build...

I've done a lot of fiberglass work, and it doesn't crack if you do it right. I assume you're going to paint the car afterwards and aren't worried about the gelcoat.
You have to rough the body and the pod with a grinding disc to expose the fibers.

Use mat (or matting)  not cloth to fill the main gaps and make the two parts one.
It's chopped fibers are much stronger than cloth

Then to make it smooth and keep from cracking you cover with cloth
