Title: Deer
Post by: kvbug (karen) on November 25, 2011, 07:42:38 AM
Please be careful, especially this time of year...     A deer just ran into me and did significant damage to my car. Then the nice police officer had to put him down.  sad0013=    bawlin)0      Little thing was fast as lightning, and it darted out from a line of trees.  Having grown up in a rural area and living in one now,  I'm always very alert for them  but this one was so fast I never saw it coming.

That's what I get for trying to get to work early and be productive.  doh.gif       All I have to show for it is a damaged car and a sore body.

Already got the estimate, have the body shop lined up.     At least they made it so I can open my drivers door now, instead of having to climb over the console and go through the passenger door.

The pain: nothing some Advil and some hot baths won't cure.

They are all over I-195 up your way - past a lot of them yesterday..

Be careful - they can flip right over the hood into the windshield - had that happen, its not pretty, and can certainly kill ya...

Had I been going a little faster,  it would have come through my drivers window.

Police Department in next town said they've had 85 police reports this month already for deer/ vehicle collisions. That's a lot.    Body shop said they're averaging 4 a day!!

I remember seeing about 20 deer in the clearing between the north and south bound lanes of the Parkway and wondered how they got there without getting killed. Then someone told me that most are born, live and die in that strip and never leave. But of course some try.

Believe it not, we "urban and rural sprawl" have created the Deer and Wild Turkey numbers. There are more now than in Colonial times. Why? Because they feed and flourish on the plants that grow on the edge of every thing, yards, farms, nurserys and developments.  2@cent tag your it!

This year they started coming into the cemetery to feed on flowers and Hydrangeas I planted this year. They jump a 6' fence to get in and out, saw them do it.

The road I live on has 4-6 hits a year and I had many close calls but my son wasn't so lucky, one got his new car 2 days after he got it one night.

I disagree with Glen, all the run-In's with deer here are at night and the Groundhogs are getting to be worse then the Turkeys.
