Hallo,
I live in the Netherlands and I am nieuw on the forum. I am looking for an affordible 2 carb kit for a 1600 dualport beetle engine. Surfing the internet I found the dual Empi 34 EPC kit. I know it is a chinese replika of a Weber ITC carb. The comments are from bad to ok. Does anybody have experiance with this kit?

Hello Emil and welcome to sjvwc web site.
I?m not familiar with that kit but the size of the carbs. (34MM) would be more suited for a stock 1600cc engine.
The carbs look like the old T-3 duel carb. Setup.
The the EMPI / Solex (Kadron) dual carb kit (40mm) is a great kit but you may have to put smaller jets in it for a stock 1600. http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC-C10-5474

Another member just put duel carbs on his engine but I don't know what he used. Bob, what did you use?

I used a classic Holley Bug Spay 2 barrel on an original Holley Center manifold. This set up goes directly to the original VW dual port side manifold castings. Thankyou for your informations. I learned something nieuw because I never heard about Holley carbs.
I think I stik with the 2 34 carbs.
Has anybody ever tried to use 2 standert Solex T3?

I hoped the Solex carbs work. I think they also have the benefit of having an elektrik choke.
I am watching the videos 'VW building an engine" and I like them very much. They go into detail, so that an unexperianced person can do it.
Is that you on the video?

Emil, I'm not adding any mechanical advice here... just welcoming you to the club. I spent several months in The Netherlands and it is a beautiful country with wonderful people, and I hold those memories very dear to my heart. Hopefully one day I will get to to go back there.

I built a Dual Port 1600 for a 1970 Westy using Type 3 carbs. I had to reverse the carbs. Left on right and right on left. Reversing the carbs put the linkage behind the fan shroud. I had plenty of room in the van engine bay to access the linkage for adjustments. The engine was stock except I used a header exhaust with quite muffler and a 009 Distributor. This set up worked very well.

I am looking for a dubbelport type 1 engine to build up a 1600cc motor. Does the 1300 AB have the same valvediameter as the 1600?

Emil, I'm not sure because I think they only sold the 1300 for one year here so I'm unfamiliar with the specifications of that engine.
I think in 75 the valves were the same in Europe but not sure

I found an information on the internet. The valve diameters of the 1300 and 1600cc engine are the same.

in the meantime I am dismanteling my 1300 beatle engine.
I wanted to buy at Car Craft, CA 92507,
1 piston kit 85,5 AA performance, $120
1 Dual 34 Empi EPC carburettor kit for dual port engine, $250
They charge $200 for shipping these 2 items. That is a lot of money.
Do You know a supplier that will charge less?

Emil, sorry but I don't know of anyone that would have a better shipping rate unless you could find a supplier in Europe. The trouble is the pistons are so heavy and increase the cost.

Emil, You could try this Company in Nurmber Germany. I met one of the guys when I was visiting family, nice Guy. Never baught anything from them but maybe thet can help.
