You, my friend, need a Baja. It's a stick, and very fun to drive. ( call me ;-)

So put a camper top on it.

Nope...
a) You wont use the stove. Imagine getting bacon grease all over all the cloth in there. You'll always cook outside.
b) the cabinets make the bed 18" narrower. ALL Vanagons come with a full-width z-bed.
Why take up all that room with stuff you wont use? Stock Vanagon is ready to camp and carries 7 passengers!
Pop-top is the option to consider. Makes it so you can stand up and adds sleep space for 2 and cools the Vanagon in the warmer months. (Pop-top is a scientifically designed chimney)
Before I get blasted... In answer to "Well why are you doing a FULL Westy conversion to the Syncro?"...
The Syncro is an investment and putting in all the useless Westy stuff increases the value of that investment exponentially

I don't need (or want) to carry 7 passengers. #@rofl3
A wider bed isn't necessary for me. Pop top is a must for Matthew to sleep in though.
I like the kitchen equipment.
Still thinking full Westy, sorry.. I just don't want a minivan ( apologies to those of you that have them. They're just not my taste.)
Now THIS would be perfect... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170822878047&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3ASS%3AUS%3A1123#ht_47115wt_1165

Nice but the price is too high. Not that it's not worth it. But I've seen 2 beautiful Realtas sell for less than $10,000
Ya just gotta keep lookin'
If you want my recommendation...... The Holy Graille (in it's diesel form)

Funny that you mentioned that one, Shawn. Early this morning, I saw it and was hoping the pictures were bigger. Also looking at a towable T@B.
