Title: SJVWC Campout at Belleplaine State Forrest
Post by: Baha (Shawn) on May 28, 2012, 09:24:23 pm
Campout at Belleplaine State Forrest  Julu 20th-22nd

The last time we were all together at Belleplaine was an absolute blast! Here we go again!

We'll be in Meisel the section with 223-227 has some pet friendly sites. If you're bringing you pet, reserve your site as soon as possible.
This is the summer season. Keep in mind that there is a 2 vehicle per site max, but you can split with another member.

Here's a full map of the park

There are specific rules for bringing in our four legged friends.
Dogs and cats must have current rabies vaccinations.
Written proof of the pet?s current rabies/distemper vaccine and license must be provided during the check-in process.

You need to fill out this form for the pet friendly sites. (Download it and fill it out in advance to streamline the check-in process)

It's not that I don't like anyone but I'm going to try for site 235-238 where we were last time. I don't want to walk to far to the bathroom.

Stupid question... how do you reserve?  Call and put it on a card?

Also if one has a tow vehicle and trailer, I presume that is the two vehicle  max?   }dunn--

Trailer is not a vehicle. You can split a site (unless youre talking 48' 5th wheel  #@rofl3 )

I'm thinking we'll go for site #222.... pet friendly.... near the water.... pretty close to Jack (and the bathrooms).  :)

What's everyone else thinking??
Title: Re: SJVWC Campout at Belleplaine State Forrest
Post by: Fire Lady (Michelle) on May 31, 2012, 06:40:46 pm
Site 222 is on the road Shawn was talking about, one away from the bathroom road that Jack wants to stay on.  I agree with Jack, close to the bathroom is good. If you want to stay on "Jack's Road" its got to be site 231-241. Looks like 231 & 232 are beside Lea (and beyond that the Yurts)n-to.  If Matt can get a Lean-to or Yurt by them we should all try to get sites in that section (to the left of bathroom). I think its better if we're not too spread out, especially at meal time.

The pet friendly sites are near mixed in 222-227

Jack and I are over on 238 (  %$oldcit Geezer Drive). There's a short path that connect the two

We've decided to let someone else (Y&M, T&R) be SJVWC Central... Big fire etc.

This way the festivities dont have to stop at 9:30  thumpup)-

Before I make my reservations,  I certainly hope this place has pull through spaces.  I attempted backing up the trailer today, and good grief it's so counter-intuitive that it has me boggled.  I have to actually stop and think about what I'm doing, and still can't get it right!!  &^rofl      ( no blonde jokes please...   #@rofl3)

it's so counter-intuitive that it has me boggled.

That's exactly it! It's backwards!

Two tricks... from when I was a trailer newb

1) REMEMBER, It's backwards

AND

2) If you open the door and look at the trailer while you back up its way easier
Title: Re: SJVWC Campout at Belleplaine State Forrest
Post by: FiveORacing on June 18, 2012, 09:53:51 pm
This will sound silly, but here's how I learned it and always taught it.  ( I was 16 when I learned)    The front wheels are the only ones that do the work. Watch the tail of the trailer in the mirrors, but think of the front wheels in your head.  Think of them as backward arrows.  Nudge the trailer in either direction using the backward arrows.  The more you point them them the "faster" the trailer turns.  When you have the trailer turning at the desired rate,  unwind the steering wheel  and follow the circle you created.     I never open the door, and always use the mirrors as long as I can see the tail of the trailer in them, then look over my shoulder.  Always try to back to the left, in your left mirror, and always use a spotter in new places.

Find a huge parking lot and see if you can back the rig in a complete circle by "nudging the arrows" and "following the circle."

KV - Mrs Muggy grew up on a horse farm and we often had to back up those humongus horse trailers . Those poor horses had a helluva ride when I backed em up.  &^rofl &^rofl
Title: Re: SJVWC Campout at Belleplaine State Forrest
Post by: lovebus (jack) on June 19, 2012, 08:11:01 am
What you have to remember is,

If you turn your steering wheel left the trailer goes right and vise versa.

The smaller the trailer the harder it is to control.

As soon as the trailer starts to turn, start turning your steering wheel the opposite way and follow the trailer.

Don't get frustrated,
not to many people make it look easy unless they do it on a regular basis, It's not as easy as it sounds and always watch the front of the car so you don't swing into something.
Title: Re: SJVWC Campout at Belleplaine State Forrest
Post by: kvbug (karen) on June 19, 2012, 08:16:12 am
I'm going to practice, and you're right... it's more difficult than it looks.  Of course,my husband has been driving huge boats and 42' trailers since he was in his teens practically so he thinks it's easy and that I should be able to just pick it up like  (  fingers snapping icon please..lol)  that.

Very easy to get into jackknife position quickly with a small trailer, that's for sure.

So what spots are still there,  that are able to be pulled into?   How level is that place, dare I ask?

Love the London Broil Shawn!

I think a bunch of us are contributing to the Friday night Italian themed dinner. Saturday night will be pot luck so everyone bring something yummy. We always eat really well at these campouts... Almost gourmet! Don't forget breakfast, that's usually a giant meal too, at least Sat morning. Lunch is more a fend-for-yourself event.

What your fancy camper thingie doesnt have a microwave?    #@rofl3

Depends on what you're reheating. I bake biscuits on a grate over the fire in a baking pan with a rack inside with a matching baking pan lid...
Portable Oven  **^bana0

You can make double boilers out of disposable aluminum pans.

Cast Iron Dutch Oven can do 1000 things...

Looks like we'll bringing the kids two older boys 8 & 12 and probably the baby, she'll be 1 year old in a few weeks so this will be a 1st hopefully the deep woods will help relax her and she won't cry too much. Luckly the milk factory is coming along too so that should help.  thumpup)- Hopefully the boys won't sneek out in the middle of the night like they did last time we went camping.. Found them next morning sleeping with some strangers, they get lost wondering to the pottie in the middle of the night.. Does anyone know if this camp ground has street lights or marker lights to find your way in the dark?

I called Belleplain again today to see if there were sites left and sounds like SJVWC will have Meisle Field to ourselves. So we'll pick a site when we get there.

Is anyone else bringing firewood?  I know in this heat its hard to imagine wanting a fire... but we probably will at night. And the forecast is showing some relief to this heat wave, so as of now it looks like it will be a gorgeous weekend!  Perfect for some time at the lake.

Is anyone else bringing bikes? We are!

Freshwater fishing in NJ requires a license (unless your under 16) and lake Nummy probably has sunfish and pickeral which can be fun for kids, but no good to eat :-(

I had to Google The Iron Maiden because it was before my time (1962). I see there's a Jack and Kathy in it... we'll have a Jack and Kathy camping..?.. is that it?  Also it's about a traction engine.

The Alamo was a fort in TX that saw a very bloody battle in 1836 but it's defeat inspired more Texans to join the Texan army against Mexico to end the revolution. Texas declared its independence and became Republic of Texas. Many Texans and Mexicans died in the Battle of the Alamo.

Dollywood is a theme park that features traditional crafts and music from the Smokey Mtn region. There are concerts, a water park, dinner theater and Gospel Music Museum & Hall of Fame.

Now... if I could only find a connection...

No cigar. Movies wasn't about traction engine. Movie was in the 1950's
 Who died at the Alamo?
What country type skills can you try your hand at. Only in Dollywood?

Sorry Jack, but Rose got a new bike cause she didn't have one before. And Yucel just mentioned it might not be new, they may have borrowed one.

Do you want to ride a bike Jack? I have an extra we can bring...

From my vast experience on camping, I have found unless they are predicting 100% chance of rain all day, seldom does it rain or rain for more than an hour,  if it rains at all.

Give the whiny kid to me, he wont whine for long!! dog@@ gimpygif

Anyway, Matt don't seem like the whining type tto me...  Now Matt S., that's a different story, he whines all the time but we pay no attention to him. #@rofl3

Bummer about the rain, but think of it this way we really need it "Mother Knows Best"  :jump4jo":
But
It's going to clear and in the end it will all turn out dry and be a good time for all.

My Boys love camping in this weather it just seems like they can't find enough puddles to jump and splah around in or to ride there bikes through trying to spray each other. Hey it's kids growing up and boys will be boys, dang even girls and adults like to get dirty.. Can you say Mosh-Pit..

Now the Baby we need to keep high and dry.

Does anyone know if this park permits dirt / Trail Bikes.. The Boys are planning on bringing there trail bikes too, guess I'll just load them on the trailer either way because we'll headed upstate Pa to visit family afterwards..

.

Well, I'm awake, but I don't hear anyone else here on site 241 stirring yet. I think we went to bed around 3am so guess I'm not surprised...

The weather turned out great yesterday... I even had to wear a long sleeve. Had a giant fire thanks to Wayne brining extra wood and Yucel burning old ammo boxes!
