Title: The Dripfest 6 experience.
Post by: matt on July 23, 2013, 12:57:21 pm
Dripfest was put on by the Old City Oil Drippers
Katie and I were debating as to going as to the threat of storms, and a heat wave. With the campout/show only being about 15 min from my house, we thought why not. So got our gear together and camped out Fri, and attended the Show Sat.
Camping was in a huge field, maybe bigger than the Slowriders MD Slam show - and there were no crazies. I think we were the only bug there that camped ( Katie in the Jiffy camper* penthouse 40sleep3, while yours truly was on the ground in a tent sad0013=). Mostly buses, some aircooled autos were there with people pitching tents. It was a great night, again, no crazies yelling, cursing into all hours of the night ( no nose guy 2@@cool)- people were rational and calm, This was a very family friendly event, with quite a few young kids *eating* - was great to meet the people there - nice stories were told $chat. We were on the edges of a section of the field, under some trees, others went more into the woods to camp. A few campfires were going as there was a chill in the air around 10:00pm CampTent$.
No rain clap2-*
Got up at a good time, packed up and I let Katie drive Bob down the field to the show area (*speeder. /help.gif.,/ I was surprised to see a number of bugs already showing up around 9:am. I thought the turnout would be very poor due to again the threat of storms and heat.
Throughout most of the day, numerous bands were planning on a stage, with audience mostly sitting in the shades of the trees. The drippers also had very reasonably priced food being prepared eat.gi+]. The turnout was quite good, and only for about an hour or so did it get VERY, VERY brutally hot in the sun pail^. Shade trees were the favorite spots. Voting was done by the audience, and Katie was able to nab first place /?trophy?/. Lots of people came to see the camper, I was surprised people were asking me where the trailer was and even some asked about the clock (!) which I did not bring. We noticed a few people from the Central Jersey club which was great.
As others commented there, I can see this show really growing with it's new location, I think in a few years it will be huge. Katie and I both missed seeing Ramone there, and well as others in our club, but we understood the heat could have been real bad for most of the day 7&7sun ::fire:: ::fire::... so that kept people away I'm sure.
M
Maybe next year....
* Thanks so much Glenn, Shawn!! thumpup)-

I love Dripfest. Glad to hear the new location is good and allows for growth. I was in Nashville for work so I missed it #banghead
OCOD Knows how to put on a show.

Drip Fest is one of my Favorite events. I really enjoyed and liked the old location at Ski Mt Pa. The guys and Dolls of OCOD have almost a Art'tist flair about there event, even there corny awards and T-Shirts reflect their sense of humor far from normal events.
I'd prefer to see the events in cooler temps, they use to be held early Spring, not heat of the Summer like this last one. The Mid Summer events and not much shade hurts many events and attendance, such was the case when PunchBuggy was held in the heat of mid summer. It drastically impacted attendance on the blacktop.
