Title: Westies in the Woods
Post by: skibumtgm on May 13, 2014, 11:15:34 am
So i didn't see a post for this one up yet but there is now.  i think i know who is going but what are we doing for food and stuff.  Do we all need a tent for our coolers or do we have one for the group?

apparently you need to have all your food protected from bears.

Celly said the rangers are no joke so im sure he will pop in with the real rules and regulations soon.  I just wanted to get this up so we can start to plan some meals and stuff as well as were we are meeting up for the drive there.

Michelle and I vote you to bring the circus tent. Just set it up away from your bus so you can use your awning.

Hmm ok. I guess we could just keep the coolers in the buses.

Coolers cannot be visible.

As mentioned, rangers are insane about coolers and will fine you very time they see it. Not sure how a canvas tent is stopping a bear, but that's what other campers at Westies said they do.

Ty- is your circus tent fixable with duck tape? Lol
I think Yucel told Dave he'd buy his circus tent and to bring it to Westies so I'll ask him to check with Dave if that's still happening.
If not, how big is your other tent? Can we stand up in it?

What would we need to stand up in it?! It's just for coolers.

i need to find it but it would be a small 2 person tent.  circus tent is fixable but not quickly i need to get new poles and its a good bit of work so doubt that will be done before this.  Plus its not high on the list cause i hardly use it.

Just thought it would be easier to walk in and get what we need out of the cooler. Whateer i need always end up on the bottom somehow. But we'll use whatever we got. We have a small 2-man tent too that we will bring.

Depending on how much time i have this week i might take the sink and stove out so i can slide my cooler in there i mean its coming out any way.

Yucel & I were talking about food for Westies and we were thinking it would good to coordinate so we all don't bring the same thing and we can all contribute something to each meal (except maybe lunch):

Friday
dinner- chicken kabobs

Saturday -breakfast- eggs
lunch - tuna fish sandwiches
dinner - POTLUCK with Group - bbq chicken

Sunday -
breakfast - corned beef hash
lunch - turkey & cheese sandwiches
dinner - side dish

Monday- breakfast on the way out

Another option could be for each bus to be in charge of a complete dinner/brkfast (besides Sat night). Meant to throw that idea out to you guys Sat, but I forgot.  Let me know your thoughts/likes/dislikes.

how do we want to do this we want to all take a meal so the others can relax till their turn to cook?  or do we want to break each meal down so we all cook a little part of each meal?

I will see if rose wants to cover breakfast sat maybe with her slow cook french toast or something.   we will of course bring something for the pot luck.

Also lets get this departure time and location set. i think the last i heard we were meeting at 9am to be on the decline of morning rush hour?  Looking at the map and knowing the group I'm guessing that a good meeting spot could be the Woodrow Wilson Service Area after exit 7 on the NJ Turnpike. This will be just after the on ramp for 206 which I'm guess Celly and Shell will be popping on at and close to 130 if Greg chooses to go that way but i think he would prob be better off getting to 295 or the turnpike. Anyway from there its about a 2 hour drive to the campground so that would have us in there and set up just in time for lunch on Friday which is good because...

So let me know your thoughts. (Map Below)

Yay hammock! Plenty of space... we have a whole field to ourselves!   :jump4jo":

Yucel and I will do dinner Friday night.  So Greg, want to do breakfast for all on 1 day?

I don't think getting on the Turnpike at 9am is a good idea.  I drive that regularly for work and it doesn't clear up until after 10am on weekdays. Greg and I debated 10 or 11 and I thought that meant what time I'd leave my house, but I'll compromise and meet at 10:30. Still gets us there at 12:30 for lunch.

There's a Petro/Iron Skillet at Exit 56 off 295 and by Exit 7 of Turpike/Rt 206.  We can meet there, check traffic and then we can jump on Turnpike if clear but still have option of Rt 206 if it's red.  What do you guys think?

How about we meet at 10?  I really am not looking to get caught in half day traffic rush hour.  and that gives you till 9:30 to sleep in

So no takers on the 10am lol.   Would it sweeten the deal if i went 10:15  Also are we planning turnpike or 295 to get there im good one way or another just if we are taking turnpike then i would say meet at rest stop if taking 295 then michelles spot is good i just dont wan to get off and on the turnpike multiple times.

Turnpike works for me, well hit some scenic stuff as we get closer to camp. Also a good drive on the way to the hike! There will be traffic all day, mostly going south and too the shore.

OK looks like we are all agreed on the meeting spot Petro/Iron Skillet at Exit 56 off 295 and by Exit 7 of Turnpike/Rt 206  Once there we will consult the phone and apps to decided to go further on turnpike or 295.  Now if we can all agree 10:15 meet time provides ample sleep in time and gets us there by lunch we will set this plan in motion and start this party.

Do i have a second ...

3rd.

Yucel got an email from coordinator Ed who requested everyone bring firewood. Previous years Kevin brought a truck load cause he was local. But that's not happening this year so we all need to bring some wood.

Not going to ice cream cruise tomorrow so we can pack the bus.

I will buy some fire wood so we know we will have some dry stuff.  What kind of board games does everyone like i hear the new Clue has a cool character

List of Cluedo characters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The board game Cluedo, Clue in North America, and the associated 1985 film ..... Mystery Game: "Green" is now an alias for the young and hip Tyler Marshall, ...

I also have catchphrase in the bus that's a fun easy camp game.  Just need to make sure the batteries are good.

M & Y -- Do you have the "Waze"  navigation app.  If not check it out you can friend all of us and when we are close we show up on your map.  it also does gps and traffic and a bunch of other fun chit.  Greg showed it to me last weekend.

so what is everyone making for the pot luck?

Greg if you get skids do you want to swing by tonight and we can break them up so its not as much space taken in your bus?

Put a quick check list together so i can stop rushing around the night before.  Figured i would share it in case you guys want to hold on to it or if you see something i missed.  I split it up into Normal Bus stuff / Over night Stuff / Food (changes by trip) / Tools and so on.  Hopefully as this list evolves there will be less of me slapping my forehead  when i get to the campground.  If you see anything i missed prob mostly in the tools section let me know i will add it for future ref.

I found a Drinking board game which looks like it could be fun to play if we get some rain.  We will all need a game piece to play it so everyone bring something to be your game piece.  It should be about the size of a Quarter.
